My DD is an Aspie. (We are both autistic and have Asperger's Syndrome.) As a freshman in HS she has been in advanced band for 2 years, prior to that intermediate and beginner. She participates in plays that the drama department for the last 2 years. She isn't formally enrolled in the class but they have asked her to participate.
I think Velvet Eldred's comment says it all -- "The arts give us a sense of who we are, a language for our internal life".
I have Artists in the Family..It is a way of expressing themselves..a freedom of expression..All schoools should have Art for children to learn..It speaks in many languages..
Art is the only tool to express ethereal aspect of us and the world we live in......it is completely moronic to even consider to remove it from school curriculum......ART IS.....THE RITE OF PASSAGE.
The arts give us a sense of who we are, a language for our internal life.
It's all about balance, a whole life
TO CREATE IS A HUMAN NEED WE ALL ARE CREATIVE ONE WAU OR ANOTHER LET'S GIVE OUR CHILDREN A CHANGE TO EXPLORE THE BEAUTY OF LIFE.
Why should you have to be in a certain type of school to learn the arts? Elitism is rife, we need to let the arts be available to every child. Creative children are happy children!
