I thought barbaric practices like this wouldn't be allowed in one of the most 'forward cultured countries' in the world. How disappointing that parts of USA are allowing this type of cruelty. Heart breaking!

I feel the same, who do these people think they are that they can be allowed to set a pack of dogs on a such an animal, shame, shame, shame on the officers who allowed this monster to torture this poor creature even further, unfortunately your President does not seem to care about what happens to the wildlife in your country, I feel sick that such a culture exists that man can enjoy watching an animal being torn to pieces, these hunters are sick people

Reply is too long for the entire content...con't. "indicated that the town leash law may have been violated.
While an unpleasant task, when a wild animal is injured in this fashion
and finds its way to a well populated area, euthanizing the animal
quickly is often the most humane and appropriate act. Doing so in a
remote location is done in an effort to be sensitive to the members of
the public who gathered at the location. "

This animal was obviously not aggressive but aggressed. The most humane thing would have been to protect & save him.

Shooting it, then using DOGS. Wow such brave men. And I thought baseball, soccer, football, etc., etc. were sports. But of killing animals for fun, thrill of the kill? Leave it to man, that old Macho, beat the chest thing. Idiots!!

On March 8, 2007, an environmental conservation officer responded to a complaint about an injured coyote in the town of Macedon. Hunters had shot a coyote and their dogs had chased it to a shopping plaza. The DEC officer arrived on the scene, safely secured the injured animal and euthanized it in a nearby, secluded area. This animal was not, as some reports have indicated, subjected to further attack by the hunters' dogs.

Due to the extent of injuries to the coyote, DEC determined it needed to be euthanized. This was carried out by a trained environmental conservation officer.

While an unpleasant task, when a wild animal is injured in this fashion and finds its way to a well populated area, euthanizing the animal quickly is often the most humane and appropriate act."

I just wrote the DEC asking them to change their policies and protect the wildlife from torture. I am relived to hear that an officer came and "cared" for the coyote and that it was not subject to more torture. I really hope what they told you was true. I still feel awful for the trauma that the coyote had to go through and hope that the DEC is truly doing what is best for each animal in every situation and not just what is easy or cheapest. Thank you for the update.

I don't know if I believe them and my better judgement tells me that after the other story came out, this story is a CYA story. I lived in Monterey, CA and went shopping at a shopping center in Seaside, CA, right off of the highway , across from the beach. With stores like Starbucks, Bagelbakery, Jamba Juice and Petco, Target, Borders, etc . One morning going to go get coffee, all traffic in the parking lot stopped, and before my eyes, a big brown bear cub was walking through our lot like...

I lived in Monterey, CA and went shopping at a shopping center in Seaside, CA, right off of the highway , across from the beach. With stores like Starbucks, Bagelbakery, Jamba Juice and Petco, Target, Borders, etc . One morning going to go get coffee, all traffic in the parking lot stopped, and before my eyes, a big brown bear cub was walking through our lot like he had all the time in the world. The police showed up just to make sure everyone stayed safe. Including the bear, and after about 45 min. The bear made his way to Borders and sat against the wall and he looked like he was resting. The Humane Shelter and Wildlife Control showed up and coaxed him into the trailor and he was relocated. Well it was the talk of the shopping center for quite a while and everyone was just concerned about his welfare and keeping him safe. The shopping center put a sign up at all of the entrances with the image of a bear, saying Bear Crossing. It is still up. The bear came from the closed land area that used to be Fort Ord of Marina, CA. There is a lot of wild life there, bears, mountain lions, coyotes ,wildcats, fox, you name it but no wolves. They were pretty much eradicated out of CA many years ago , maybe way up north. But wildlife and man co-exist pretty much without incident. Although up near Palo Alto, near Stanford, they have had to shoot a couple of bears- had to?-- and shoot a mountain lion that was too close to a neighborhood. I wonder who was at fault? I know!

I think it is disgusting that hunters are allowed to hunt, and torture wild animals for sport or fur in this day and age. People who enjoy killing for pleasure are sick and the ‘sport’ of hunting beautiful wild animals is barbaric. It makes me wonder why America is so surprised when people go mad and indiscriminately kill innocent people when they allow people to partake in such horrible ‘sports’.

Cannot people, see that any who does this to Animals would do the same to humans if given half a chance? People must know where this filth lives and be able to even things up or set him up to be removed from the community. I would contact council or whoever was reasonable if I live d in the USA but it’s as I live in Australia it’s a bit hard to do much but there must be people who live in the USA who can do more.

Done!
And here is the email I sent to the DEC report an environmental violation Dept. ;
I am writing to you to report a heinous act of abuse and negligence by officers employed with your department. According to the account and eyewitness’s and pictures that have come to light, there must be an investigation with disciplinary action taken against the officers involved as well as the hunter.

WE, have become the animals....heartless, without conscience, no feelings of love and affection for the living, no more wonder of the different, amazing creatures created by God for the beauty of earth, to adorn nature with their individuality, smile at their presence in the unspoiled areas of our world. Yup, WE are the animals now....and God is crying.

Yes - we are far from civilized. We permit Governments to kill people because those people are different from us in their colour of skin, language, race, culture and customs and because we want to enslave them and grab and exploit their natural resources ... We humans have a very long, painful and difficult path to tread before we become human !
