It's a law for a reason .. Pit bulls are dangerous and unpredictable.. I was bitten by one .. She was a big baby till one day me and stepson had an altercation . I pet this dog every day fed this dog every day it was my dog but again it still bit me . Stop this before some child gets hurt!!!!!

I got bit my a standard size poodle when I was young and you don't see them banned.....any dog can be dangerous and bite, not just pit bulls. It's a unfair law to just target a certain breed.

Pits and any bully breed are extremely protective of children. Did you ever stop to think that that dog was feeling your aggression towards that child and feeling the childs fear of getting in trouble?

As a child, my parents had to put "Mickey," our standard, coarse hair Dachshund in another room when they "disciplined" me because she would lunge at them, even when they just raised their voices at me. Mickey had 5 years with my parents before I came on the scene, yet she was my champion. Keith Ryskamp, MOST dogs will side with children. Your dog is not dangerous and unpredictable - YOU are!

Keith, I'd love to know more about the "altercation" with your stepson. Sounds like it caused undue stress to the Pittie. Hhmmm......I feel like there's more to the story that you're not telling.

Keith, I believe it's in the natural nature of a pit bull to protect a child and believe that they will protect those who are being beat/hurt despite it being their owner or not.

Keith... if you were having an altercation with your son... the dog was probably responding to that, as most dog breeds will. All dogs can bite. Pitbulls are not more disposed to bite than other breeds, you should not villify a whole breed of dogs because of a single incident. Using your logic, I can argue the exact opposite... because my pit has never gotten violent or hostile, than all pits must be gentle dogs. Its incorrect logic. A dogs behaviour is a product of its upbringing and environment. No dog is born inherently violent or hostile, they are made that way. Look at the techniques dog fighters use to make a dog mean and willing to attack. They have to do extreme and very cruel things to there dogs to make them into violent animals. If pits were born mean and vicious.... it wouldn't take months of cruel training and abuse to make them hostile and willing to fight.

Keith, you really just showed your ignorance. "Your" dog was protecting "your" stepson against "your " aggresive stance towards him. I bet you didn't think about that did you.

My beloved pit lived fourteen years as the sweetest, most obedient dog I have ever met. Most of the others I meet are the same. How can we discriminate against a breed for what we have done to it's reputation? Pits are obedient. They do what they are asked to please the owner they love. If this means fighting to the death they will do it. That's loyalty that we take advantage of. When we can become a better species ourselves, hopefully we will learn to appreciate this wonderful dog as...
