Gays weren't allowed in yet, so there goes that argument. Yes Susan one signature will make a difference because it's followed by another one signature. As someone said don't forget this country was built on the backs of veterans.

What about the non-Christian veterans? Shouldn't they be included?

Not every American is Christian. I don't care if you worship your god, but don't force others to do so under the guise of patriotism. A non-Christian can serve our country as well as any.

Either love this country with all of it's religious memorials and our freedoms to express our love and appreciation for those who have fought for these freedoms or take the first plane to Afghanistan and join the other God haters!

Remove the Cross from a Veteran's cemetery? Are the elected officials really contemplating this?

Rachel Thurman

It's in a city park, not a cemetery.....but that shouldn't matter. SAVE THE MEMORIAL!

Well, it's practically as bad as removing an entire graveyard, so yeah!

Terry, elected officials are not at liberty to redefine The Establishment Clause. Moreover, these same officials would like to avoid very costly litigation they eventually will end up losing.

I think it matters more that it honors the vets, not a particular religion. Freedom From Religion appear to be a kind of hate group from their actions. What do the VETS think about this memorial? Do THEY feels honored by it? I think that's ALL that matters.

Bill Skaggs

Then remove the cross and replace it with one that doesn't favor Christianity. What's the problem with that? Do you think that non-Christian vets feel that this memorializes them?

Glenna, it was vets that filed this petition. You are assuming all vets want this religious display on public property. Being "unappreciated" and removing a constitutional violation from a public park are two unrelated events.

Mr Quinn should spend his time making his comments on one of the Non-Christian, non-Cross believing sites. Obviously they are not appreciated or shared on this "Save the Monument with the Cross" for OUR veterans. I would guarantee there are very MANY more vets believing and thanking GOD to this day and everything that Cross represents as opposed to those he referred to.

DOESN'T SURPRISE ME IN THE LEAST, AS OBAMA HAS NEVER BEEN IN THE ARMED FORCES NOR IN BATTLE AS OUR BRAVE SOLDIERS HAVE, AND TO DINIGRATE THEM IN THIS WAY IS A SIN, AND I BELIEVE ALL TRUE AMERICANS CAN SEE THE EVIL IN THIS LATEST THING AGAINST OUR COUNTRY,

AND OUR MEN IN UNIFORM, SHAME ON THIS ADMINISTRATION FOR THIS TERRIBLE THING, SEEMS THEY DO NOT RESPECT THIS U.S.A. AS ANY TRUE AMERICN SHOULD..

I want to apologize to all veterans, but especially to those who fought in Viet Nam. I came up in the 60's and personally witnessed the pstd(they hadn't even had the term then;) that the men from my neighborhood came back with, including my first love. To insult them, their families, and those who gave their lives is more than out of line; it is sacrilige. This type of protest shows a society in decline. No matter what this country's faults; people all over the world want to come and live in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

@Maxine Hardy Hammond, Obama has nothing to do with this issue. Why are you insinuating that he is behind this complaint? Veterans filed this complaint, not Obama.

Dawna Strickland, In God We Trust will be challenged soon enough. Originally, our currency didn't have this motto on it. IGWT was not added until 1956 during the Cold War (1863 to some pennies during the Civil War). E pluribus unum worked well until being later altered. The Founders did not use IGWT.

Dawn, In God We Trust was only added in 1957 by religious lawmakers. Secondly, atheists and Muslims don't get what they want all the time. The memorial represents just Christians on government maintained property. That is illegal.

1st amendment freedom of speech, press and peaceable assembly protects our rights of expression- A solution to the dilemma is to throw Michelin Tyres over the cross to cover it from view & make a statement of what the Viet Nam War was all about- It was a "Police Action" because the purpose was to protect the Wall Street investments in the Michellin Tyre Corporation. How do I know this? In 1987 the Army Map Service surveyed the entire country from DMZ to Mekong Delta for accurate artillery maps JIT for Tet offensive. We measured 1000's of acres of Michellin Tyre Corp. where we were NOT allowed to conduct combat operations. When an aircraft went down, we surveyed tree damage & issued documents authorizing US Treasury to reimburse Michellin Tyre Corp. for damages inflicted on thier property by US armed forces- Bet U didn't know it.

Individuals can express their beliefs, sure. But the government cannot. It must remain neutral. And religious messages and symbols on government property constitute government speech. Public property must remain neutral in regards to religion.

YOU KNOW WHAT!!!! I AM GETTING SICK AND TIRED OF ALL THOSE PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT WANT TO WHINE AND MOAN ABOUT STUFF LIKE THERE BEING A CROSS. THIS COUNTRY WAS BUILT ON A FOUNDATION OF FAITH AND MANY HAVE FOUGHT AND GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR IT, BUT JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE OFFENDED BY A CROSS, YOU THINK WE SHOULD CHANGE EVERYTHING FOR YOU. I AM OFFENDED BY YOU WANTING TO CHANGE OUR HISTORY, SO I HAVE AN IDEA,,,,,LETS GET RID OF YOU!! I COULD SAY SO MUCH MORE BUT I WILL STOP HERE BEFORE I REALLY GET UPSET!
