This is a crock. We haven't killed baby seals for years. There's no longer a market for their fur anyway.
We now primarily harvest the adults because since the moratorium on the babies' fur, the seal population has exploded and the fish stocks have crashed.
The current harvest is necessary to salvage what's left of the fishing industry.

We lose animals of every kind everyday if not the enviroment then people will always find a way to kill off these and so many other animals that we will soon no longer have, nor need a say in what happens to them, shame on those who dont take these things seriously enough to raise thier voice ,shame on those who ignore the voices of those who stand up for those without !!!!.

I find it bewildering that Canada continues to let this slaughter continue. The fact that on top of everything else - the cruelty, brutality, loss of wildlife etc. - it makes NO ECONOMIC SENSE to continue in this practice should be more than reason enough to put an end to it. The cruel slaughter of rhinos and elephants for ivory, of other animals for fur, etc. etc. will continue as long as there's a market and no effective enforcement of legislation to protect animals. But this is one case...

The cruel slaughter of rhinos and elephants for ivory, of other animals for fur, etc. etc. will continue as long as there's a market and no effective enforcement of legislation to protect animals. But this is one case where there is a complete absence of any reason for the killing to continue. The Spaniards have long justified bullfighting on the grounds of "tradition" (though Catalonia has finally banned it). Certain traditions are worth keeping, others are just brutal and have no justification. Seal hunting is one example.
