What is happening to humans? They seem to feel nothing for animals anymore yet they continue to let so called breeders carry on bringing more pups into the world to be killed unneccesary! Why are the laws so lenient on spaying and neutering and inspections don't get done on a regular basis! Our governments and councils just don't care because they don't see, and what they don't see doesn't matter. What a shame!

April Peterson ..hello from Newcastle..:) No im sorry, ive not heard a word as yet. I hope something gets worked out soon... :( My own rescue dogs came from Blacktown in late 2011, early 2012... to think that they could have been in the same position as the 5 who got killed the other night makes me sick to my stomach. Sad sad story for all the animals now. Hugs Jayne

maybe if there is proof this should be taken to the papers. people who hand their dogs in to see if they can get a new home for their pets would be disillusioned.

We need to stop breeders over populating the animal population

All of the dogs look like they have some "pit bull" in them (emphasise "look like"). One had scars all over his face - often and indicator of fighting and/or being used as bait. If these dogs were any other breed or mix than "pit bull" looking, they would likely be alive and rescued. At Carson shelter in Los Angeles, 10 out of 12 dogs on their "kill list", which were euthanized in one day, were all considered "pit bull" type dogs. The remaining 2 of the 12 were spared. I know that not all dogs are suitable for rehoming; sadly, it's usually not their fault, it's due to previous mistreatment by former owners. However, I was very saddened and disturbed to see that 5 dogs have recently been killed after failing their temperament tests. I know that not all dogs are suitable for rehoming; sadly, it's usually not their fault, it's due to previous mistreatment by former owners. However, I was very saddened and disturbed to see that 5 dogs have recently been killed after failing their temperament tests. I have seen some branches of the RSPCA use temperament tests which are totally inappropriate; in fact the average dog would be unlikely to pass them, and a scared and confused dog in the raucous and stressful environment of a pound would have very little chance. I believe a better way is for shelter staff to come to a consensus, say at a weekly staff meeting, as to which dogs are showing unacceptable behaviour, e.g. aggression, and whether it is likely to be a condition which can be rehabilitated or not. The staff know which dogs are ok and which aren't, and a consensus would stop any personal bias. I know it's a difficult situation and the staff are under horrible stress dealing with ghastly tasks which are only necessary because of the greed, cruelty and stupidity of negligent breeders and owners, but there must be a better way. RIP you poor babies; I'm so sorry you were let down by human beings.

To add to my eqarlier comment sack B lacktowns councillors as well get humane councillors. Councillor Dickens your surname is off by 3 letters you ony have to look at those 5 smiling faces to know that they were n ot dangerous you need to go on A Current Affair and apologise to Australia for the way you treat animals in your care.
