I just adopt a 16 years old dog and he give me joy and love every day <3 They have so much to give and they love you just as much as a puppy <3.
My sister has always adopted the older pup (one was 12 & lived 3 years after in the loving comfort of her home). We've also always adopted the older cat. Its true, their appreciation shines in their faces every day of their lives. (by the way Jacqueline, we too had a blind dog as well as blind cats. They did beautifully, animals seem to adapt quickly & you will too, thank you for your kindness!
I have seen this trend more than usual thw past few years.Just awful.I am in rescue, and take the ones nobody wants. The sick &an elderlt.I jave a crew if wonderful dogs! They seem tp kmow who really loves them.I have a 15yr old,&one going on 16They are simply great! :)
I'm sick of people only thinking about themselves....it's no longer convenient for THEM when an old dog needs to be let outside to potty more often, etc. so they dump the dog at a shelter.
senior dogs and cats are great for older people too!
I have adopted several 'oldies' over the years and currently have 3 11 yr olds and a 13 yr old (plus a lively 11 month old Bosnian boy who was abandoned on the streets of Sarajevo). I love the senior canine citizens and highly recommend giving a happy retirement to a 'golden oldie'!
I just took in a 13-year-old dog...though not from a shelter. He had nowhere to turn that would have valued preserving his life. What a blessing he is!
It doesn't matter if you got him from a shelter, a rescue, a neighbor, an elderly person, or off the street. What matters is that you did it - and for that I commend you.
I would never abandone my old dogs, they deserve to be loved to the end. It's so important that we have them in our wills as well, GOD DOG parents!
I did a little video several years ago." Adopt an Amazing Senior Dog" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omaybtYS5ks.
just posted your beautiful and heartwarming video. Need to click on link by original photo
I am in action to adopt an older dog from Spain, he is 12 years old and he is blind. I await his arrival.
I had a blind dog, we put pillow bumpers on everything. We trained her to key words, like easy, left and right. Also train them to night and day rituals as they can't see the light. I have a big old dog above me, poor thing he paces at night, as they walk him, I gave mine nightly rubs, and would say night night.. I miss me baby girl, it will be 1 year since she passed :-(
Don't let them die unloved. They do not understand how they can love and care for their humans, and then be abandoned by them. They are sad and lonely and, oh so afraid. To be left in a dark and lonely cell, to die alone. Jackie Davis
