Las grandes empresas como Trader Joe tiene el poder de cambiar la distribución entera y sistemas de embalaje. Por favor, firma la petición para alentar a sus líderes para poner fin a la utilización de envases de plástico para productos.

VERY happy to join this cause--it's a no brainer--anyone who goes anywhere outdoors, especially the beach, and (heavens!) if you swim in the water, the home of so much wildlife, you see the preposterous amount of plastic EVERYWHERE! The plastic packaging also hides less-than-fresh produce. Time for TJs to live up to their "fresh" and "green" rep.

Yes and that could be eliminated by people carry a bag for their garbage and dispose of it properly. Ever notice how many disposable baby diapers get dumped in public waters. What is wrong with people.

I have personally emailed them multiple times about this and their response is "this is the way we do it and there isn't much that can be done to change it." I'm glad someone is finally organizing a more wide-spread petition.

we have the most power in what we buy or refuse to buy at thier check outs, let us not forget ;) We don't need anyone to organize for us what to not buy or buy. Easier to have that powerful vote, and use it !( that the companies hope we never really wake up to that fact !) Wake up when you shop.Huge power in our votes by what we buy ! Thanks for your post :)

Just don't shop there anymore. Period.

First of all, apples are not packaged in plastic; they are there for everyone to pick up and choose. Secondly, I would prefer to have my carrots, lettuce, and so on packaged by TJ's than go to any number of stores that sell GMO products. TJ's don't sell GMO products, which is why I shop there for everything. I can't even get non-GMO veggies and fruit from the local veg and fruit (fresh) store. They don't think there's anything wrong with GMO food! Excuse me!

Hi Barbara, Trader Joes refuses to identify their source of most products. Example is all of the soy that is offered as organic. Since 90% of soy in the US is GMO... where do they get theirs? Most think it comes from China.... which labels foods as organic that are filled with pesticides and GMO'd. We write or tell the manager of our TJ's that we will no longer buy any product from them containing soy unless they identify their source. So far they have not been willing to identify their...

So far they have not been willing to identify their sources. Check their products even the breads listed as organic have GMO'd soy. To remove GMO's from your intestines (where they cause the most damage) take powdered psyllium in water and then drink lots of water. It is a "stop gap" until you can eat all organic (from identified sources) again!

They claim that "organic products, regardless of brand, by definition are non-GMO" but I have read otherwise. This is from Trader Joe's website, down below.

Trader Joe's Products are Sourced from Non-GMO Ingredients

December 12, 2012 (updated)

Our approach to Genetically Modified Organisms is simple: we do not allow GMO ingredients in our private label products (anything with Trader Joe's, Trader Jose's, Trader Ming's, etc. on the label).

Our efforts began in 2001, when we determined that, given a choice, our customers would prefer to eat foods and beverages made without the use of genetically engineered ingredients.

When developing products containing ingredients likely to come from genetically modified sources, we have the supplier of the product perform the necessary research to provide documentation that the suspect ingredients are from non-GMO sources. This documentation is in the form of affidavits, identity-preserved certification of seed stock, and third-party lab results from testing of the ingredients in question.

In addition to this work done in developing a given item, we conduct random audits of items with potentially suspect ingredients, using an outside, third-party lab to perform the testing.

Given our position on GMO ingredients in Trader Joe's label products and the work done in support of that position, it is our expectation that our products test as non-GMO.

We have yet to take the approach of labeling products as non-GMO because there are no clear guidelines from the US governmental agencies covering food and beverage labeling. Instead of waiting for such guidelines to be put into effect and based upon customer feedback, we took a more holistic approach and made the no GMO ingredients position part of what the Trader Joe's label encompasses.

We're unable to make the same claims for branded products (products not in the Trader Joe’s label).

Organic products, regardless of brand, are by definition non-GMO.

does not matter if soy is organic or not! IT IS VERY UNHEALTHY ALONG WITH WHEAT AND REFINED SUGAR

I'm pretty sure their tofu is not GMO free. Other brands clearly state this on the packaging, while TJ's does not. Same goes for everything containing white sugar, corn, etc. That means cereals, drinks, juices, dairy (cows are fed GMO grown alfalfa & corn), meats, sweets, baked goods, and pretty much everything! :(

I have seen apples in my local supermarket that have been plastic wrapped on a foam tray, the people need to give this packaging back to the shops that use it ;)

Weg met de plastic verpakking, het is toch meer dan krankzinnig dat ik een wortel of komkommer in plastic verpakking moet kopen!

love trader joe's & would like them to be on the cutting edge in packaging. I have shopped at 7 trader joe's, 2 regularly, the bananas have always been loose.
the limes, apples, lemons, & many fruits come in a woven bag, the kind I saw when I was a child.
i would gladly pay a little more, $.10-15 per package, to have the packages be more recyclable ( a higher grade 1's & 2's).
glad to see the petition. think important to get the facts accurate.
perhaps things are done differently at Trader Joe's out of California.

I can't bring myself to buy produce wrapped in so much plastic - why do they do this? Seems really out of date.
