I am amazed at the "green thing". Stop coal fired power plants, but then you want nuclear which as we know from Japan is a lost worse than acid rain. Which I have passed those plants and see no smoke coming from the stacks due to the scrubbers. You have eliminated the paper bag, to many trees being cut down, so now you have the plastic bag. People complain about other people being over weight causing more food and trucks to haul the food, but these same people live in big houses and get...

People complain about other people being over weight causing more food and trucks to haul the food, but these same people live in big houses and get cold because the have no body fat that insulates them and hike up the thermostat to stay warm in a big house (Yuppies) takes even more fuel that affects the "green thing" Many of these same people are driving big SUV's using more fuel to move themselves to the grocery store when a small car will do. Look in D.C. Metro area and you will see the perfect examples of a hypocrites.

Plastic is promulgated by the oil and gas industry so they can make more money. Plastic pollutes, and it's all over, even in my small northern town ~ It ends up on the ground, and doesn't go away until we pick it up. In towns where people use bags that last, this problem goes away. We can ban plastic bags; there are other things we can use.

I'm against the ban, since it's of no sense.
Packaged veg & fruits are in the first place more hygienic. As to whether non-GMO or GMO, Most all over the world are GMO. It's of no harm and can occur spontaneously in nature.
Addressing the non compostable vs compostable, points on a basic misunderstanding. The compostable plastics may cause more health harm than the non-compostable that can be recycled and thus have lower carbon foot print. Considering the pricing, it has a marginal effect and can be absorbed by Tom Joe. Regards, Jacob Scheinert.

Asia is one of the worse places , Drain feet high in plastics , When it rains , The sea is littered with it. Washed off from beached, Rivers with floating rubbish bags, beaches covers and the shore line with sand and plastic. Its not the plastic thats the problem. Its the people and what they do with it. Its also every other form of rubbish they like to throw into the rivers, streams and drains, Country side, To lazy to dispose of it properly.

What needs to be done is have a fine for any one who throws any form of rubbish that is not fast biologically degradable . Anything that is man made must be disposed off in the right way. And stop super market over packaging from cleaning stuffs to food. Far to much plastic. Polystyrene ,cellophane , Use only recycled paper and stop jutting down trees, take your unwanted thing to a charity shop or recycle place. Or rap it and put it beside a skip, so it may be used, Separate your tins ,...

this is ridiculous. why just Trader Joes. Why not Walmart, Jewel, and these other stores. Trader Joes pays cash for their items and get the customers the lowest prices. It is a small company coompared to those who are in a higher bracket. I be lieve they should change there packaging, but I also be live that if you going to do it with this company, then you do it to all companies!

you can re a small company easier as a big one and you have to start to tell it everywhere to every company especially McDonalds,to stop using plastic straws -there exists paper ones and to stop giving away plastic toys etc.

I stopped shopping at Trader Joes long ago because of the ridiculous Plastic packaging. The issue is not about freedom of choice vs. regulations when islands of plastic bigger than Texas are floating in the ocean. Plastic is showing up in the bellies of fish, killing wild life and even multitudes of wild birds on remote islands. It pollutes our soils, our foods (for example plastic leaching into meat & cheese ) our oceans, rivers and lakes and the environment in general in unimaginable...

Just for the momentary convenience of a throw away plastic bag. This is the unltimate unconsciousness of humans trashing their planet which supports their very lives and existance.

Remember folks, you choose with the dollars you spend. It isn't just Trader Joes: consumers banned fast food a few years ago because burgers were being sold in styrofoam. They changed the packaging, but now the large sodas and shakes and iced coffees and salads are all using plastic containers. You can get soda and sparkling flavored water in aluminum cans which are 100% recyclable into more cans - choose those over plastic bottles. Likewise buy powdered detergent (recycling the paper...

They changed the packaging, but now the large sodas and shakes and iced coffees and salads are all using plastic containers. You can get soda and sparkling flavored water in aluminum cans which are 100% recyclable into more cans - choose those over plastic bottles. Likewise buy powdered detergent (recycling the paper box) instead of liquids; bars of soap instead of liquids, coffee and pet food in paper or aluminum cans instead of plastics. Icecream in paper vs. plastic. Doesn't matter if plastic is "recyclable" if most of it never makes it into the recycling stream. And even then, if the packaging is made from recycled plastic it indicates it: do you ever see that on your plastic bottles? Each time you choose to not buy plastics or to go to another store to choose otherwise, l let the manager know why.

I wish every single company would consider alternatives to plastic. I'm going to start making my own laundry detergent because powdered can ruin an agitator, but there's a recipe online that takes a little time, but is well worth it...and you can use ONE plastic container FOREVER...for the life of the container and just continue to refill it. Styrofoam drink containers are a HORRIBLE idea as they leech chemicals into drinks that are even slightly acidic. What we need: more cancer..and it can most certainly come from that.

Even more elegant: a glass drink dispenser to contain your laundry detergent.
