How about "green" communication and forget about so much computerized BS. I'm with Barbara Harvey on this one. Sliced mushrooms would rot if not kept in an air-tight environment. When you go to a regular super market, what do you put your produce in? Is it not plastic... Let's get rid of disposable diapers...... something to think about.

I am looking at the zucchini in the picture as I hold a package in my hand. The tray is CARDBOARD. What is the problem with that? I cannot find cardboard trays in other grocery stores. Celebrate that small step forward and others will follow.

this is ridiculous. why just Trader Joes. Why not Walmart, Jewel, and these other stores. Trader Joes pays cash for their items and get the customers the lowest prices. It is a small company coompared to those who are in a higher bracket. I be lieve they should change there packaging, but I also be live that if you going to do it with this company, then you do it to all companies!

you can re a small company easier as a big one and you have to start to tell it everywhere to every company especially McDonalds,to stop using plastic straws -there exists paper ones and to stop giving away plastic toys etc.

My first big job was at the age of 16 as a bag boy at a grocery store. Bags, made of pape. People complained about the abuse of trees with the amount of paper being used. I have a much better solution to your plastic dilemma, recycle properly for reuse. We now have the facilities available to us, so lets make good use of them. After all eecycling has created more jobs. May our Holy Father in heaven above bless all

Because plastics are downcycled, not recycled. With the volume of plastic, if we just say "let's recycle it all" and keep buying NEW plastic, we will still drown in our own selfishness and convenience. Plastic breaks down further and further into tiny little particles that find their way out to sea, which are then introduced into the food chain. Plastic is not natural. This is not okay. We should not let this happen.

In europe they charge for a bag. There is one store near me that also charges $.25/bag - everyone brings their own. It's not a big incentive to get a 5 cent credit, it's a much bigger incentive when you get charged a higher price. I watch people go into a store, buy a pack of gum, it's put in a bag, they walk outside and put the bag in the garbage. did they really need a bag to carry that item 20 feet? Idiots!

That's not an answer, Tiffany. You're offering nothing but indifference, and that's the problem to begin with. Some people give a sh#t about the planet...you just approach an important issue with sarcasm. That's disturbing to me.

It's all about consumerism and CAPITALISM... If you don't like it, a petition isn't going to help. Contacting the company themselves and letting them know that you along with a good chunk of customers will. If you're against it, then contact ALL the grocery stores, but because you think that less plastic is going to help the environment, and you ACTUALLY want to make a difference, just signing a petition for trader joes isn't going to help. I am not indifferent, I just see Sh#t like this...

If you want environmental important issue, go with the regulation of organic pesticides so that way the FDA can monitor that to make sure that that isnt too toxic for consumption, or developing a program(not a regulation) in your city to cut down on organic waste to limit the amount of contaminated material going into landfills.

I am amazed at the "green thing". Stop coal fired power plants, but then you want nuclear which as we know from Japan is a lost worse than acid rain. Which I have passed those plants and see no smoke coming from the stacks due to the scrubbers. You have eliminated the paper bag, to many trees being cut down, so now you have the plastic bag. People complain about other people being over weight causing more food and trucks to haul the food, but these same people live in big houses and get...

People complain about other people being over weight causing more food and trucks to haul the food, but these same people live in big houses and get cold because the have no body fat that insulates them and hike up the thermostat to stay warm in a big house (Yuppies) takes even more fuel that affects the "green thing" Many of these same people are driving big SUV's using more fuel to move themselves to the grocery store when a small car will do. Look in D.C. Metro area and you will see the perfect examples of a hypocrites.

Plastic is promulgated by the oil and gas industry so they can make more money. Plastic pollutes, and it's all over, even in my small northern town ~ It ends up on the ground, and doesn't go away until we pick it up. In towns where people use bags that last, this problem goes away. We can ban plastic bags; there are other things we can use.
