You can't put raw peeled vegetables ('baby' carrots, shown in the picture) in a giant trough and expect them not to instantly spoil. Other things like cucumbers shouldn't even be shipped without being dipped in wax, and mushrooms go bad practically overnight if they aren't carefully preserved in vacuum or neutral-gas packaging, but that horrifies you too. If you want this any time soon, you're going to have to give up some of the variety you enjoy. There is no magic wand you can wave to...

There is no magic wand you can wave to 'green up' decades of research and development in food preservation and shipping.

Well, I mean, GMO could come pretty close using novel amino acids and the introduction of natural pesticides like caffeine, but you're doing your damnedest to make sure that doesn't happen, aren't you?

Don't like excessive packaging on your vegetables? Care where your food comes from, buy from a CSA (community supported agriculture). A wide majority of communities that have access to a Trader Joe's will have access to a CSA! Just Google It!

How about "green" communication and forget about so much computerized BS. I'm with Barbara Harvey on this one. Sliced mushrooms would rot if not kept in an air-tight environment. When you go to a regular super market, what do you put your produce in? Is it not plastic... Let's get rid of disposable diapers...... something to think about.

I am looking at the zucchini in the picture as I hold a package in my hand. The tray is CARDBOARD. What is the problem with that? I cannot find cardboard trays in other grocery stores. Celebrate that small step forward and others will follow.

this is ridiculous. why just Trader Joes. Why not Walmart, Jewel, and these other stores. Trader Joes pays cash for their items and get the customers the lowest prices. It is a small company coompared to those who are in a higher bracket. I be lieve they should change there packaging, but I also be live that if you going to do it with this company, then you do it to all companies!

you can re a small company easier as a big one and you have to start to tell it everywhere to every company especially McDonalds,to stop using plastic straws -there exists paper ones and to stop giving away plastic toys etc.

Asia is one of the worse places , Drain feet high in plastics , When it rains , The sea is littered with it. Washed off from beached, Rivers with floating rubbish bags, beaches covers and the shore line with sand and plastic. Its not the plastic thats the problem. Its the people and what they do with it. Its also every other form of rubbish they like to throw into the rivers, streams and drains, Country side, To lazy to dispose of it properly.

What needs to be done is have a fine for any one who throws any form of rubbish that is not fast biologically degradable . Anything that is man made must be disposed off in the right way. And stop super market over packaging from cleaning stuffs to food. Far to much plastic. Polystyrene ,cellophane , Use only recycled paper and stop jutting down trees, take your unwanted thing to a charity shop or recycle place. Or rap it and put it beside a skip, so it may be used, Separate your tins ,...

Why is this all about Traider Joe, why isn't it about ALL shops and foods the people buy!

Because we have to start somewhere and need to be specific and focused conquering one small goal at a time. But you are right in a way...eventually and little by little it needs to be about ALL shops...
