when is this madness going to stop? why do people think of a dog bites someone they should have to die?
maybe the person did something to the dog to provoke him. years ago when a dog bit a kid or anyone they were not sentenced to die. did the bite break the skin? get serious please! people think this is the only answer.IT IS NOT!

Actually the bite did break the skin, to the tune of 400 stitches. By the time I was 4 my parents had taught me not to run up to any dog like that even if I knew them. Dogs startle! I also learned not to put my face near an animal's face or paws, not to yell or hit them, not to pull tails, clobber them with things, etc. Even adults do this now days and are surprised at the result. Stupid people!

I agree Laurie, they have to stop the madness which is just what it is. Kids can be awful to animals and we don't know if that was the case at all. Anyway, the fact that they want to put this dog down is just stupid. Sorry about the language.

Did the child do anything to the dog or did the dog just go over and bite the child. Well?

the child run over to a dog sleeping on a couch--while the 15 yo babysitter left the room--the child was overly excited at seeing Milo--and I suspect startled the dog--original story: http://www.examiner.com/article/hound-who-bit-child-mansfield-has-been-sentenced-to-death

Ong I bight by a dog when I was little. It was just a accent and my mom and dad knew that this is crazy this happens a lot now.

I bet that the child has annoyed the dog, and to kill a dog just because he has bitten is absurd!
I sent an email with disappointment.

The dog isn't guilty for reacting! The child should have been assisted by her parents or any adult. It's so unfair to decide to put down the poor animal.Keep children away from dogs, not the opposite!

Please, send e-mails, say what you think to the "Selectmen", let's try to save this "furbaby". Bellow is the message I've just sent (feel free to copy and paste):

"If the kid, injured by the dog, had been injured by the babysitter, the Police would be investigating what actually happened and the baby sitter would not be euthanized without having the chance of proving her innocence.

Why, when a dog does the same thing, the animal should be put to death?

Why, when a dog does the same thing, the animal should be put to death?

Dogs are living creatures and deserve to be treated as such and not as objects we use and trow away when we think it is the time. LIVES are LIVES....RESPECT THEM!

Why don't you send a veterinarian and a specialist in animal behavior to analyze the dog, his past and present actions? Why don't you study the case, instead of taking a live?

Isn't the life of the dog worth the trouble because he is "just" a dog?

Be reasonable and respect the live of this living creature, who wishes to live as much as you do. The only difference is that he cannot defend himself and talk. Just talk to say what happened with him and the kid on that fateful day.

Respectfully"

Children frighten dogs. Dogs bite. It's as simple as that. Parents should be watching their children closely 24/7 - that is what parenthood is all about.

Sorry to say but I am a dog owner and looking at this dog and I am good at judging dogs the kid must of done something to provoke it. In the footage it is wagging it's tail a happy dog not showing an attack dog attitude.
