when is this madness going to stop? why do people think of a dog bites someone they should have to die?
maybe the person did something to the dog to provoke him. years ago when a dog bit a kid or anyone they were not sentenced to die. did the bite break the skin? get serious please! people think this is the only answer.IT IS NOT!

Actually the bite did break the skin, to the tune of 400 stitches. By the time I was 4 my parents had taught me not to run up to any dog like that even if I knew them. Dogs startle! I also learned not to put my face near an animal's face or paws, not to yell or hit them, not to pull tails, clobber them with things, etc. Even adults do this now days and are surprised at the result. Stupid people!

I agree Laurie, they have to stop the madness which is just what it is. Kids can be awful to animals and we don't know if that was the case at all. Anyway, the fact that they want to put this dog down is just stupid. Sorry about the language.

Did the child do anything to the dog or did the dog just go over and bite the child. Well?

the child run over to a dog sleeping on a couch--while the 15 yo babysitter left the room--the child was overly excited at seeing Milo--and I suspect startled the dog--original story: http://www.examiner.com/article/hound-who-bit-child-mansfield-has-been-sentenced-to-death

A person abuses another person or even kills them and than they are let free. This was a terrible accident and I feel for the child but children do provoke animals with their innocence. Please give Milo a chance. He has a loving owner.

I strongly believe that putting Milo to death is most definitely a dramatic overkill response! Give this dog a 2nd chance! The dog was caught off guard, & taken by surprise, no one will ever really know what was going through his head? With the exception of perhaps someone like Cesar Millan: Dog Rehabilitator, People Trainer whom I'm sure would say, DO NOT put Milo to DEATH! But instead safeguard Milo from being around children in future, & visa versa. Even put a muzzle on the poor dog when...

With the exception of perhaps someone like Cesar Millan: Dog Rehabilitator, People Trainer whom I'm sure would say, DO NOT put Milo to DEATH! But instead safeguard Milo from being around children in future, & visa versa. Even put a muzzle on the poor dog when walking him for extra precautions. I'm sure the child, along with his parent's have learned a harsh lesson too. I'm really SAD that the boy was so badly hurt, & that it must've been a very traumatic experience for him...no matter what really transpired. There's far too many HORRIFIC episodes of sheer CRUELTY that take place against animals, & on a daily basis for absolutely NO REASON whatsoever! The SADISTIC POS's that commit such HEINOUS CRIMES are most often not even caught, & when they are...they mostly get off with a proverbial slap of the wrist...for doing far, far worse, with intention too! Leave Milo be. As far as I'm concerned no one has the right to snuff out his PRECIOUS little life...STOP the INJUSTICE NOW!

LET MILO LIVE! This is ridiculous! Just because of a bite another dog needs to be put to death. What about the horrors people do to animals. There should be punishment for that. MILO should not be put to death. Children are always pulling animals tails and other things too. This shows children that animals should die when a little bite is involved or if the animal is defending itself. SO WRONG! LET MILO LIVE!

The Dog was sleeping in his OWN home, on his OWN couch! Suddenly, the dog is awakened by something grabbing him....as I see it: The child should have been taught RESPECT to all animals by his OWN parents - never approach a sleeping animal and scare or grab them; sitter should have taken the child WITH her, not allowing the child to wander; so, what does society do? Kill the animal...NOT educate the people that allowed this to happen! Save the dog!

I think most dog owners more or less knew about frightening a dog in it sleep.
Everytime my little niece came over my place, I have to tell her not to be too excited in front of a dog, even my own dog who dote on my little niece very much.
You never know when a dog might feel sick, or feeling pain that might make it snap back. Irregardless of how friendly it is.
