Unless Governor Cuomo wants Willowbrook to open again, he should re-evaluate his budget cuts to OPWDD. (For those who are not familiar with that facility, search "Willowbrook disgrace" on You Tube.) This is how that atmosphere is created...the gradual erosion of mental health services budgets.

Yes this so true, and exactly what will happen...The government wants us solely dependent on them. And I am going to fight! My sister was in an institution for years. She has been living with us for 11 years, after my parents passed and goes to program during the day. I am in the process of getting my own respite house going. Because we know that the caregivers need a break. And also, who can take care of your loved ones , better than family!

The goverment is big business. If they don't get something back they would cancel all education. We pay for a better education than our children get. If a child needs special services by law they should get it, Onlhy if a parrent knows what to do and how many do. I am still fighting the fight for the needs of children in Brooklyn If Someone has a child with special needs in the 5 broughs get in touch wilth our public adbocate he helped me with a big problem within the board of education....

I work with these individuals every day. How will we continue to help them succeed and live valuable lives integrated in their communities. We are working with bare bones as it is how much more fat can we cut before these great things fall apart. Stop fraud find those loop holes we are doing great things for people do not take more away from them please.

My husband and I are ok, but we have many friends that need these services, we don't have the services, he has medicare, but he would give it up for others who really need it, he works on outside employment, but know there are others who can't or aren't able, he would work and give it up to others who really need it. I am not on any of these either, but I would support it and give to others too. We once belonged to Self-Advocacy, at one time, Please Governer Cuomo, don't cut these programs for these individuals.

More advocacy for spending other people's money. I know it is mean-spirited of me, but when we see serious needs like this we need to do whatever we can but not advocate taxing our neighbors for it. After all there is no end to the good things that could be done with our neighbor's money! Sorry to be so negative but we need to get serious about government spending.

i respect your opinion sir but the individuals we are advocating for have basic needs that are hard to meet with the funding they have now. Do you have a better suggestion as to how to meet their daily needs?

Mr. Lanfear: You should be ashamied of yourself We know not what the future holds and you, or someone you love may one day be on the receiving end of such assistance. I imagine your attitute will dramatically change then. For shame!!!

Cuts to education, special education, special needs/disabled individuals is completely unacceptable. Why do our children have to repeatedly suffer at the ignorance of adults? Wake up, bloated politicians!!!

My son has downs syndrome and autism. He is a great little 8.5 yrs old guy, but very hyper and impulsive and he doesn't feed himself and is still in diapers. He needs 100% 1:1 care. I am stuck in the system and I have not had respite for 5 yrs. I am always told after filling out tons of paperwork that there is a waiting list or the budget ran out. I can't imagine how bad it will be if they cut any more from the disabled comminity. I feel like the filthy rich have caused a lot of the autism we see now with their chemical plants and their genetically modified "poison" food so they should be held responsible for the aftermath...the huge increase in children with autism, but I guess these children can be cast aside for the sake of the all mighty dollar. We are treated as road kill on the highway to wealth and power by the filthy rich and politicians who kiss the butts of the company or individual that gives them the biggest contribution.

Please take the time to sign this petition. I work six days a week as a family care sitter for New York State. Every year I go 2 to 3 months without a pay check as I hear all kinds of excuses like waiting for budget to pass, not enough funds to pay me, waiting for the system sfs to convert to new fiscal yr and approval to pay me and all the other hard working dedicated people who service these consumers. These consumers depend on us and the State of New York needs to get there stuff together. I don't see the governor or any of them going without pay for months.. Please let the governor know that this is wrong and needs to stop...

People on general do not realize how much these cuts will hurt people with disabilities. The services OPWDD provides are essential to the quality of life of thousands.

These cuts would hurt my family we depend on this income I am a disabled mom of 5 I had a career and I wound up very sick and had to have half of my pancreas removed at 38 and I also have 3 children that are autistic and need it . It's not fair that the government wants to take this from people that need it to survive .it needs to stop and the rich need to start helping out more they say there's all this extra money places so get it and put it into play for people that are disabled my children need more services and they can't get them .

Andrea Horowitz

No more cuts! These proposed cuts should not even be a consideration! The most vulnerable individuals and families are at even greater risk of loss of services rather than having the ease, access, and available funding to fundamental services.

It's a political football. They threaten to cut something people want to get them to vote THEIR way. It's kinda like blackmail.
