I'm a disabled veteran and anyone that would come on my land and tell me to take my flag down would be carried out on a stretcher with out another word said I gave my life for that flag and all it stands for and I would do it all over again to keep freedom for my family.

Sir I thank you for your sacrifices, and I agree except for one thing: we don't fight for a flag, we fight for what a flag SYMBOLIZES. And evidently, this is a violation of what the flag stands for, including the right to fly one as the first amendment guarantees as freedom of speech.

Well said James and thank you for your service to our country its people like you who keep America safe! If we cant hang an American Flag in America on our own land where the hell can it be hung! Whats even more confusing is that i can burn an American flag in the middle of the street and its called my right but if i try to hang and fly one its a problem? Whats wrong with thispicture

Because they want to control everything in our lives. Think about everything they have already taken away from us. You can THANK ALL THE PEOPLE THAT VOTED FOR OBAMA they are getting what they wanted & I HOPE THEY LIKE IT. I have said before & will keep saying COME HERE FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY & YOU HAVE MORE RIGHTS THEN US TRUE AMERICANS. I am not against them but do it the LEAAL WAY. They come here get everything free, HEALTH CARE BETTER THEN WE GET, FREE FOOD STAMPS, HOUSING DO I NEED TO GO ON????

To ignore our country's past and all those who made it possible,is to deny our future and bring about an attempt to bring us to demise. That flag our standard is so much more than three colors , stars and stripes. Learn its meaning teach its meaning and be ready to defend its meaning politically domestically and abroad like so many have done before. The time is NOW.

it is wrong not to be able o fly the American flag and that law would be taking away your rights as an American citizen

Ermengarde Tenderstone
Ermengarde Tenderstone

Not that I place a lot of emphasis on the flag, it's what the flag stands for that I'm concerned about! Including the first amendment right to fly one! But you can fight for a "flag" and what it symbolizes, but not fly that same flag? I wish there were more details, this seems to be a foreign based petition but I signed anyway, so silly.

When you buy where there is a homeowner association there are rules you agree too. They all have some rules concerning flags, etc. Want to fly your flag, don't buy where they are. Read the sgrreements before you buy. It's simple.

Meant Agreements.

James, it is unconstitutuional to have such a requirement. I'm surprised they haven't challenged it in court. It simply flies in the face of the Bill of Rights, it simply isn't allowed. They are just mad because somebody might wish to fly a foreign flag, which is also guaranteed by the first amendment. Homeowners associations do not make law, and cannot supercede the Bill of Rights. It is that simple.

Ermengarde Tenderstone

How 'bout I make a homeowners association saying only the people of my choice, the flags of my choice, and the clothing of my choice are allowed in a community? IT'S THE SAME THING, it's all first amendment.

James Moss

You can do that. It's legal. If people sign on to those terms, they should keep them. It's like these places for seniors only. They make the rules. That's what they do ( HOA). Nobody makes you sign, or buy there.

Ermengarde Tenderstone
Ermengarde Tenderstone
  • Ermengarde Tenderstone

that's like saying it's okay to execute my neighbor because I think he molested my child, just because I wrote it into my homeowner's agreement or my own lease. No, they DO NOT make the rules, they DO NOT supercede federal standards, ever. They have been getting away with it but it's high time somebody challenge it.

Ermengarde Tenderstone

and they can keep their homeowner's association and their snooty bylaws, but remember they are bylaws, not LAWS.

Ermengarde Tenderstone
Ermengarde Tenderstone
  • Ermengarde Tenderstone

only once have I ever made the mistake in living in such a place, and that association only abused their own homebuyers, so i got out of there fast as I could. They can keep their stinking attitudes. This is America, not conformityville. If people want to be alike, dress alike, smell alike, etc., they should just become robots and move to a robot planet somewhere.

Ermengarde Tenderstone

and yet James I wonder how equally supportive you might happen to be of laws that say DON'T KILL ONE ANOTHER???? It's amazing to me that people will support the snooty and the insecure as to real estate, but never take nearly that much interest or initiative when it comes to allowing regular everyday people to feel safe in their homes and outside their homes. HOA communities are no safer than any other. Do they have rules against guns? You know damn good and well if they did somebody...

I'm assuming this man read the rules of the community before he bought his condo? Seems a little backwards to me to sign contracts with a community to uphold the rules and then turn around and pitch a fit on Facebook about when he breaks the rules and gets called on it. This uproar is silly, the rule he knowingly broke was about flags in general....it's hardly an attack on America. No one is telling him he can't be a proud American.

I wondered, as many of these crazy petitions are based on a fake story. I found several news stories about this, so it's real....but still, the guy bought into this community knowing the rules. Playing the victim card after breaking a rule he promised not to is a little extreme. He could go to the board and plead his case, but of course the consideration then must be made for anyone wanting to display any flag. Seems to be there is a lot of extreme knee-jerk reaction lately to anything...
