I wonder if we crashed the Media Matters blog, with so many ppl wanting to see the clip from Fox?
My pagan ancestors did not relinquish their spiritual beliefs from gentle spiritual admonition. They were tortured, dispossesed slaughtered and enslaved. Not the proper target of ridicule!
I wouldn't mind signing and posting it to all my feeds, but like Tammy Morton, I want to read this before I sign it. I went to the link everyone is posting. What I GOT was 4 0 4 NOT FOUND And I searched the site for it and came up with nothing. There is nothing there about the story. I'd LOVE to sign this as I am a Pagan, but I won't do it without first reading up on it. So sorry.
Just to remind everyone, freedom of religion does include all spiritualities. Freedom of speech and expression applies to us all, also. The world is big enough for many ways of being and many belief systems.
yes, but they sounded like total arrogant assholes on the air and they should have had their facts straight and perhaps talked to a few Wiccans before they started speaking in the manner they did.
I agree, Sondra. We all have a freedom to feel and express how we feel about things. Sadly, I've seen far too many people on ALL sides of this issue act like ignorant rear ends, stereo-typing and playing the blame game. If this is in fact based on something said on a commentary show, then folks need to get over it. Christians face a lot of hate, too, because some jack-offs decide to practice hate in the name of their god. Muslims face the same prejudice. I no longer subscribe to any...
I no longer subscribe to any particular religion, simply because I find wisdom and truth in virtually all of them, at the same time I find a lot of prejudiced junk, generally because of twisted translations. You want to prove to these guys you are not what they think? Going around whining and demanding that they apologize isn't going to make you look mature or educated. And it's not going to make you look respectable. Try offering an interview on their show to explain your beliefs. Otherwise, grow a thicker skin and get over it. This country needs to go back to recognizing that "free speech" means that others are entitled to disagree with you, without having to apologize for exercising their rights.
@ Jennifer .....Fox New as a whole has a long and sordid history as it is. Standing up to them is the right thing to do. Demanding an apology is immature Jennifer ??? Really ? It makes one look 'uneducated' ? How so ? And do you not realize that these kinds of shows will NOT want a Wiccan or Pagan on their show for an interview ? That's not how they operate. They are a sounding board for the close-minded, right wing, conservatives. They need to apologize ! PERIOD.
spewing misinformation... yep... sounds like... well, any bigtime news company. Aren't there like some several thousand news, radio and paper places owned by only 3 or 4 companies on the top level?
Yeah........I'm with Diana on this one.
Religious defamation is a hot button in the international community. That is not the issue here. Faux News lack of accurate reporting and dubious fact checking is. There are factually 8 Pagan holidays -- not 20. Another fact is that the membership of both communities is richly diverse in age, race, gender, and social strata and not made up of twice divorced middle aged women who like incense. As an individual, Tucker, and his two flying monkey companions may express whatever bigoted opinion...

As an individual, Tucker, and his two flying monkey companions may express whatever bigoted opinion they like but as employees of Faux News and as alleged journalists, do they have some responsibility at accurate reporting? That remains to be seen in the days to come and how much exposure this receives.
@ erin--i love your comment about the diversity and middle-age women. that wins comment of the day! i would be interested to find out if there is, indeed, any follow-up regarding exposure.
Get over it, is like telling a child to get over hurt feelings.
It is not the hurt feelings, it is the Defamtion of Character this can cause, false information on the biggest "news" channel, just because they wear ( and are) to lazy to do research. So I don't care about Christans at this point because they get a way with a lot of shit. So it time for Wiccans, Pagans, a Witches to take a stand. This is not helping with the fear people have.
WTF last time I checked there were more the just a few pagan/wiccans in the US this F@#king ass needs to learn to do some cheeking before he talks. and the fact that Fox news would even let this get on the air makes me think that they just like getting hate mail. they are just mad that they don't rule the world like they used to.
The link is not found. :(
I don't sign petitions...but I am horrified about this. No other faith would be so berated and made fun of like this on national tv. How can this be tollerated. Please, every one, let the world know we are not a joke. I am a contributing member of the community and my small business has created jobs and smiles across the country. This has me outraged.
No petition by Pagans will have any effect on Fox. Sad, but that's the truth. They don't care one single bit.
Dawn, Thank you for bringing this back to my attention! I agree whole heartedly and ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Whats really getting to me is that were the only ones they singled out. Did they talk about anyone else's holidays..at all...no.
What's the story here? The causes link just says they were hateful. I want details! :P
These reporters are ignorant and irresponsible. They are also about to have their asses handed to them, I'm sure!
sorry dawn but christianity and judism have been made fun of for years so maybe we can all agree its time to stop comparing others religion to ours have a great day
that is not true Deirdre they are counting on us to sit by and think like you are now. WRONG! STAND UP AND FIGHT AGAINST IGNORANCE. dont matter what pagan tradition you ascribe to...STAND UP AND SOUND THE HORN!! If enough of us stand up and say "enough is enough we demand respect" we will be heard.
Then sign the petition Dawn, if this is truly how you feel. Our voice will be stronger if you join in with us!
Love ya Dawn and good to see you lending a voice on this. Hoping to see you and the Bear soon.
Did anyone else see this as well: http://video.foxnews.com/v/1118760543001/wiccan-days-included-on-college-calendar.
Ignorance is difficult to tolerate when these incredibly inaccurate comments reach so many! Shame , shame on Fox yet again! Dr. Marianne Schaefer
I'm not Pagan/Wiccan.....I'm a Witch!
Here's a Link to Story:
The bad thing is that we Watch Fox News sometimes......These People need to be Educated on things more.
When you go to the Link now you get: 404 Not Found.....Wonder why?
I'd already posted the Article on my Witchy Wisdom Network but couldn't get the Video Link to work.
Maybe the site crashed due to so many pagan supporters hitting the site....that, or it's been taken off.....those are my guesses......Blessings:)
No, you get "404 Not Found" but the Video is on You Tube now.
