Don't these morons realize that "pagan" only means non-Christian, which includes Jews and Muslims... Fox news are only showing their stupidity over and over and over, what a crock. And YES, FOX NEWS MOUTHPIECE....YOU ARE A BIGOT. The idiots at Fox News should all be charged for denigrating the pagan religions in the media.... this is plainly hate-speech against a protected religion, and they should be held accountable. Where the hell did they get these idiots, High School dropouts?

nope cause lot people don't know what any meaning of what word mean cause they to busy wanting to blab there mouth before thinking Paganism (from Latin paganus, meaning "country dweller", "rustic"[1]) is a blanket term typically used to refer to religious traditions which are polytheistic or indigenous.

It is primarily used in a historical context, Greco-Roman polytheism as well as the polytheistic traditions of Europe and North Africa before Christianization. In a wider sense, extended to contemporary religions, it includes most of the Eastern religions and the indigenous traditions of the Americas, Central Asia, Australia and Africa; as well as non-Abrahamic folk religion in general. More narrow definitions will not include any of the world religions and restrict the term to local or rural currents not organized as civil religions. Characteristic of Pagan traditions is the absence of proselytism and the presence of a living mythology, which informs religious practice.

Ethnologists often avoid the term "pagan," with its uncertain and varied meanings, in referring to traditional or historic faiths, preferring more precise categories such as polytheism, shamanism, pantheism, or animism.

In the late 20th century, "Paganism", or more correctly "Neopaganism", became widely used in reference to adherents of various new religious movement including Wicca.[2] As such, various modern scholars have begun to apply the term to three groups of separate faiths: Historical Polytheism (such as Celtic polytheism, Norse Paganism, the Cultus Deorum Romanorum and Hellenic Polytheistic Reconstructionism also called Hellenismos), Folk/ethnic/Indigenous religions (such as Chinese folk religion and African traditional religion), and Neopaganism (such as Wicca and Neo-Druidism).

Hell yes, Kelley I agree completely, the problem is that charging them for hate-speech is the only legal remedy we have. It is not against any laws in the US for the media to lie... It IS, however against Federal Law to promote hate-speech against a religion as far as I know. Unfortunately in this country Fox News can't be charged for telling lies, it is considered protected under the 1st Amendment by the courts. There is no law in the United States that makes it illegal for the news media...

I didn't watch the clip... but I always thought "pagan" meant more than just non Christian... I thought it was more specific to nature worship, and especially in the Celtic tradition. I didn't think that religions such as Muslim and Judaism were considered Pagan.

watching this... it was clearly an editorial piece and not "news" per se... and as such, they can say what they want. The guy on the left was definitely a biggot. The girl really had nothing to add and was just there for eye candy, has probably been legally brain dead for years... I wouldn't really get angry or demand apologies. I would just label them idiots and move on. I've heard equally ignorant things said about Christians and especially about Catholics, and nothing is ever said...

I didn't think the federal government could actually do anything... as long as there was no violence or anything. We have had that idiot from Florida.. I forget his name now, the one that spews the anti-muslim rubbish here in Dearborn several times doing his thing at the big Mosque they have here. It's kind of stupid that police have to protect that kind of ignorance because he has "freedom of speech". I remember one time in Saginaw when I was a teenager, the KKK did a march through...

I remember one time in Saginaw when I was a teenager, the KKK did a march through the primarily black downtown and the police again had to protect the marchers with their sheets and their signs because of freedom of speech... all at the expense of the tax payers and business owners who had to board up their stores for the day in fear of violence breaking out.

I agree, Sondra. We all have a freedom to feel and express how we feel about things. Sadly, I've seen far too many people on ALL sides of this issue act like ignorant rear ends, stereo-typing and playing the blame game. If this is in fact based on something said on a commentary show, then folks need to get over it. Christians face a lot of hate, too, because some jack-offs decide to practice hate in the name of their god. Muslims face the same prejudice. I no longer subscribe to any...

I no longer subscribe to any particular religion, simply because I find wisdom and truth in virtually all of them, at the same time I find a lot of prejudiced junk, generally because of twisted translations. You want to prove to these guys you are not what they think? Going around whining and demanding that they apologize isn't going to make you look mature or educated. And it's not going to make you look respectable. Try offering an interview on their show to explain your beliefs. Otherwise, grow a thicker skin and get over it. This country needs to go back to recognizing that "free speech" means that others are entitled to disagree with you, without having to apologize for exercising their rights.

@ Jennifer .....Fox New as a whole has a long and sordid history as it is. Standing up to them is the right thing to do. Demanding an apology is immature Jennifer ??? Really ? It makes one look 'uneducated' ? How so ? And do you not realize that these kinds of shows will NOT want a Wiccan or Pagan on their show for an interview ? That's not how they operate. They are a sounding board for the close-minded, right wing, conservatives. They need to apologize ! PERIOD.

Religious defamation is a hot button in the international community. That is not the issue here. Faux News lack of accurate reporting and dubious fact checking is. There are factually 8 Pagan holidays -- not 20. Another fact is that the membership of both communities is richly diverse in age, race, gender, and social strata and not made up of twice divorced middle aged women who like incense. As an individual, Tucker, and his two flying monkey companions may express whatever bigoted opinion...

That remains to be seen in the days to come and how much exposure this receives.

Get over it, is like telling a child to get over hurt feelings.
It is not the hurt feelings, it is the Defamtion of Character this can cause, false information on the biggest "news" channel, just because they wear ( and are) to lazy to do research. So I don't care about Christans at this point because they get a way with a lot of shit. So it time for Wiccans, Pagans, a Witches to take a stand. This is not helping with the fear people have.

Stephanie Celeste Chateau

Just thought about this. This is a great example of 3 fold law in action. They try to not so subtly convince the masses that pagans/wiccans don't matter - aren't legit - shouldn't be taken seriously - and the rubber band SNAPS back! Now alot of people are probably being educated about pagan/wiccan beliefs just by this petition being circulated and people reading through the comments trying to understand what it is Fox News did *this time*. Like I said before... Faux News.. you done f'd up.

My feelings are kinda mixed on this for a few reasons:

One, I'm not a big fan of petitions requesting someone to back-track on their statements -- I think not tuning in to a show that you don't like is a more effective course of action. All you'll get from a petition-educed apology is a hollow one.

Two, while I do like Fox News, the morning show Fox and Friends is just a little variety hour, and while I sometimes watch it for fun, it's not something I take amazingly seriously -- that's...

Three, they make a valid point about Christians being bashed to death over saying "Merry Christmas". It's not like I'm going to burn in their perceived hell because they say it to me in an honest expression of their joy.

However, that all being said, the dude on the far left was just fucking rude. I have NEVER heard of a pagan or Wiccan whine about not getting a holiday off, so the whole thing is just stupid to begin with -- it's not like they MUST take the day off because the moon is full. They're not werewolves. There was NO need for him to belittle people for celebrating Samhain -- considering he's a few weeks away from celebrating a pink bunny gifting chocolate to his kids...

Well, Aimee, here's the thing:

Morning talk show or not, they could have at least been more professional, especially when identifying themselves as journalists. They, in the very least, can apologise or state the fact they have been better informed about the people in which they were outright and blatantly picking on. The attitude they took, seriously, shocked me, even for Fox News.

As for Christians being bashed over saying Merry Christmas, no, it's the other way around (at least here). You say "happy holidays" here, and you got people cramming Bibles down your throat. I have never seen somebody get attacked for saying "Merry Christmas." It's the safest way to say happy holidays in my area. Either way, however, it's not a valid point in their discussion about anything.

The only thing they did was bring out the fact that this college is recognising Pagan and Wiccan holidays, and they took the chance to spill out their under-educated and biased views to pick on people they do not understand.

Atleast they finally did apologize and they had someone actually represent, with true facts and information, on the show. Not the first time "Fox" made a "mistake" had to backpedal and apologize for. Just shows how that network is run and I will never watch nor read their news. I know most news networks will be biased or what have it but Fox has to be by far the worst.

That's strange. I JUST had it up and it was working. Basically Tucker Carlson on Fox News bashed Pagans and Wiccans and really overgeneralized and stereotyped them as a culture. Saying they are all "twice divorced middle-aged women living in rural areas who like incense or Dungeons and Dragons players." And basically that their holidays should not be included in the Missouri University list of holidays AND that he can't even take the religious practice seriously because it centers around "Halloween".

It's ridiculous that they are that ignorant over what their ancestors believed in. News flash: If you are of European heritage... you just insulted your own family. Not to mention yourself. Easter?
