Then again, I make fun of other people religions all the time so why should wiccans or pagans be any different? But, since the Christians aren't allowed to burn them at the stake anymore... Ya gotta let them have a little fun!

Don't these morons realize that "pagan" only means non-Christian, which includes Jews and Muslims... Fox news are only showing their stupidity over and over and over, what a crock. And YES, FOX NEWS MOUTHPIECE....YOU ARE A BIGOT. The idiots at Fox News should all be charged for denigrating the pagan religions in the media.... this is plainly hate-speech against a protected religion, and they should be held accountable. Where the hell did they get these idiots, High School dropouts?

It is primarily used in a historical context, Greco-Roman polytheism as well as the polytheistic traditions of Europe and North Africa before Christianization. In a wider sense, extended to contemporary religions, it includes most of the Eastern religions and the indigenous traditions of the Americas, Central Asia, Australia and Africa; as well as non-Abrahamic folk religion in general. More narrow definitions will not include any of the world religions and restrict the term to local or rural currents not organized as civil religions. Characteristic of Pagan traditions is the absence of proselytism and the presence of a living mythology, which informs religious practice.

Ethnologists often avoid the term "pagan," with its uncertain and varied meanings, in referring to traditional or historic faiths, preferring more precise categories such as polytheism, shamanism, pantheism, or animism.

In the late 20th century, "Paganism", or more correctly "Neopaganism", became widely used in reference to adherents of various new religious movement including Wicca.[2] As such, various modern scholars have begun to apply the term to three groups of separate faiths: Historical Polytheism (such as Celtic polytheism, Norse Paganism, the Cultus Deorum Romanorum and Hellenic Polytheistic Reconstructionism also called Hellenismos), Folk/ethnic/Indigenous religions (such as Chinese folk religion and African traditional religion), and Neopaganism (such as Wicca and Neo-Druidism).

Hell yes, Kelley I agree completely, the problem is that charging them for hate-speech is the only legal remedy we have. It is not against any laws in the US for the media to lie... It IS, however against Federal Law to promote hate-speech against a religion as far as I know. Unfortunately in this country Fox News can't be charged for telling lies, it is considered protected under the 1st Amendment by the courts. There is no law in the United States that makes it illegal for the news media...

I didn't watch the clip... but I always thought "pagan" meant more than just non Christian... I thought it was more specific to nature worship, and especially in the Celtic tradition. I didn't think that religions such as Muslim and Judaism were considered Pagan.

I would just label them idiots and move on. I've heard equally ignorant things said about Christians and especially about Catholics, and nothing is ever said...

And some are Single and some are in Blissful Relationships!) And as for Not being able to name all of the Holidays.... I can do it off the top of my head, IN ORDER! Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Midsummer, Lughnasadh, Mabon. and it's not 20 Holidays, It's 8. Did you realize it went from 20% to 20 Whole Holidays? Morons! If they just did some research, They'd realize that THEIR Holidays Almost all have Pagan Origins! Christmas Was Originally Yule. Easter Was originally Ostara. Groundhog Day was originally Imbolc, And Their Halloween is a Perverted Version of Our Samhain.

I am not Wiccan but did sign the petition, I am shocked to read how my belief is being attacked, based on the misguided and misrepresentation of a few as well. Seems the ones that misrepresent tend to have a louder witness than most, could be the ability we as humans have to look for the negative more so than the positive. Well, seeing as many of us believe our Gods to not "care" about events like this, we wouldn't sit back on our asses and "pray" for it to get better. This is why we speak out; an online petition being only one form of our protest to misinformation. It's easy to say "offense happens, deal with it," and ignore the repercussions that will - and have - come of this report, but that's not something that we as a community can do so easily, nor is it something that we would want to do. Just thought about this. This is a great example of 3 fold law in action. They try to not so subtly convince the masses that pagans/wiccans don't matter - aren't legit - shouldn't be taken seriously - and the rubber band SNAPS back! Now alot of people are probably being educated about pagan/wiccan beliefs just by this petition being circulated and people reading through the comments trying to understand what it is Fox News did *this time*. My feelings are kinda mixed on this for a few reasons:

One, I'm not a big fan of petitions requesting someone to back-track on their statements -- I think not tuning in to a show that you don't like is a more effective course of action. All you'll get from a petition-educed apology is a hollow one.

Two, while I do like Fox News, the morning show Fox and Friends is just a little variety hour, and while I sometimes watch it for fun, it's not something I take amazingly seriously -- that's...

Two, while I do like Fox News, the morning show Fox and Friends is just a little variety hour, and while I sometimes watch it for fun, it's not something I take amazingly seriously -- that's what the business and opinion shows later on are for.

Three, they make a valid point about Christians being bashed to death over saying "Merry Christmas". It's not like I'm going to burn in their perceived hell because they say it to me in an honest expression of their joy.

However, that all being said, the dude on the far left was just fucking rude. I have NEVER heard of a pagan or Wiccan whine about not getting a holiday off, so the whole thing is just stupid to begin with -- it's not like they MUST take the day off because the moon is full. They're not werewolves. There was NO need for him to belittle people for celebrating Samhain -- considering he's a few weeks away from celebrating a pink bunny gifting chocolate to his kids...

As for Christians being bashed over saying Merry Christmas, no, it's the other way around (at least here). You say "happy holidays" here, and you got people cramming Bibles down your throat. I have never seen somebody get attacked for saying "Merry Christmas." It's the safest way to say happy holidays in my area. Either way, however, it's not a valid point in their discussion about anything.

The only thing they did was bring out the fact that this college is recognising Pagan and Wiccan holidays, and they took the chance to spill out their under-educated and biased views to pick on people they do not understand.
