OMGoodnes, what a waste! We saw the video on the news, and i got mad, because they're trashing perfectly good cookies that can be sent to our troops, and given to the homeless and food pantries. Donate any cookies that are left!

I want to see you thousands of miles from home with nothing but sand and death waiting around any and every corner, Charles. Then I want someone to consider sending you something to remind you of home, then saying, "Nah, this is the bad part of home.. cookies are evil and they don't need this." You, sir, are a dick.

I hate to say it, but this reminds me of what the boyscouts are doing to. I thought that these organizations were about morals and values. I think this is a joke, my kids will not join any troop what so ever. I will teach my kids morals and values on my own. I realize that I am just one person, but I'm going to try my best. Kudo's to Emma for trying to do something that's right

I agree Kelly. Emma worked 12 hours this weekend at booths, selling cookies. After hearing about this petition, I suddenly get a call from Girl Scouts saying Emma is being removed from her troop. It is wrong.

I don't think GS cookies are food (read the ingredient list...) but I WILL sign the petition now, because that's simply just an evil way to treat this child. She is smart, she has ideas, she needs to be heard. And the troops to whom these cookies could be sent can decide yes or no on consuming them.

Kimberly Reynolds: I suggest forming national organization to fight for her rights as an American and as a Girl Scout. Sue the scum. They make me very angry. Once a Girl Scout, always a Girl Scout. They have shamed me as a Girl Scout.

Let me know. Form it, and I will join.

To all of u ladies making comments about it not being nutritious, .. If ever u were a soldier far from home, u would know what it's like to have a taste of home. A cookie, a dr pepper, granulated sugar in ur tea.. So maybe u should try to expand your thinking when you fuss about a troop getting a Girl Scout cookie!!

Girl Scout Cookies are actually the most requested item from a deployed soldier (www.hugsforsoldiers.org) -I am a Troop leader and this year our girls did the Troops to Troops, Operation:Taste of Home for the Gift of Caring. You just have to ship to GA and we are going to to have "donation jars" on the tables to help pay for shipping or to chunk change in to go towards buying more boxes. My husband is military and has deployed several times, they appreciate these things, and our family supports and admires your efforts.

You may be unaware that military compounds in Iraq and Afghanistan are full of familiar franchises of McDonalds, Taco Bell, KFC, Starbucks, and such. They also have internet and Skype availability, so troops can call or write home daily. There is not any of the remoteness we knew in wars in Korea and Vietnam. They also have plenty of cookies and coke. Even grass and heroin.

Rosemarie M. Buchanan , no one is calling it a "meal." Girl Scout Cookies are a tradition here in America, a special treat that many look forward to each year as well as a way to support the Girl Scouts.

Having known homeless people who were lucky to get a meal of stale pizza crusts out of a local domino's dumpster or going in to a McDonald's to buy a single plain biscuit so that they could fill their pockets with ketchup so they could make ketchup soup for dinner I imagine the added carbs and sugars of a box of cookies would have been welcome on a cold winter night...

The Girl Scouts are allowed to return 1% of all sales to ABC Bakery for a full refund. (It actually explains this in the news article, if anyone read it.) If the bakery is offering this return as part of business, then the bakery is the one that should be donating these cookies. Your petition should be for ABC Bakery, not for the Girl Scouts. Though I'm sure all of this ridiculousness is taking up enough of the Girl Scouts' resources that they'll be pressuring ABC Bakery themselves now. I...

Actually, the bakery give the Girl Scouts credit for the cookies. It is up to the Girl Scouts to do what they will with the cookies. Therefore, Girl Scouts need to have a policy as to this type of situation. If it were up to ABC, then the Girl Scouts, as their customer, could have them donate the cookies. Either way, the buck needs to stop with the organization who has their name on the box. Business 101.

Ceil Kessler
Ceil Kessler
  • Ceil Kessler

My guess is that they had no idea what the bakery was doing with the 1% they got credit for. For all they knew, they were giving them to employees. I don't have a problem with the petition, but I do take issue with the tone. People are acting like they're kicking dogs, and laughing about it. I think all you'd have to do is ask them to donate them. My experience with the Girl Scouts is that they're reasonable people.

Kimberly Reynolds

  • Ceil Kessler

The bakery didn't even have the cookies. They were in the Girl Scouts warehouse. I agree, this is not infanticide, but if you knew the horrible way they treated Emma, you would not find them to be reasonable at all. Though, again, I recognize that this is just one council, not the whole organization. However, there has been a distinct lack of attention or responsibility in this matter by the organization as a whole. At some point, some one needs to advocate change. In this case, it is an 11 year old.

I think it's a very good idea, an idea I can easily support, so I came here to sign the petition assuming it was a way to express my approval of a good idea: But I could not sign a petition that 'Demands' anyone give away and pay to ship what belongs to them. Where do those who 'Demand' get the crust? I didn't sign the petition because it is outrageous.

Harold Ivie Actually, Operation Gratitude will ship them at no cost. It doesn't cost the Girl Scouts anything either. Though if makes you feel better, Emma is more than happy to toss in her allowance...well, should would but she already donated her allowance to the Red Cross.

Sarah you should get you facts straight before you try to slander an 11 year old. She was not selling online, she was collecting donations for the Girl Scouts I Care program. There is no investigation. They approved of her social media effort originally, then they changed their mind when her troop leader complained. they asked her to stop collecting donations online and she did.

My own comment: GS cookies make my tummy rumble in a bad way. And, I do not consider them food, if you read the ingredient list. However here we have a 11 year old girl finding a solution for unsold cookies that means they won't go to waste and perhaps those troops overseas can make their own choices and eat as they choose -- and there will be less waste. The GS are trying to kick her out unless she conforms to their "ideals" whatever those are. Frankly, I wasn't going to sign the initial...

Frankly, I wasn't going to sign the initial petition, since I'd prefer real food being put together, but this thing from the GS seems to go after her simply since she spoke out.
