OMGoodnes, what a waste! We saw the video on the news, and i got mad, because they're trashing perfectly good cookies that can be sent to our troops, and given to the homeless and food pantries. Donate any cookies that are left!

It is better to toss the cookies in the trash......The Troops don't need all this sugar poison..
Send them something of real value other than junk sugar cookies......

Thanks for speaking up - you obviously grew up in a generation that cared - waste not, want not. Emma needs the support and wisdom of elders like you.

I want to see you thousands of miles from home with nothing but sand and death waiting around any and every corner, Charles. Then I want someone to consider sending you something to remind you of home, then saying, "Nah, this is the bad part of home.. cookies are evil and they don't need this." You, sir, are a dick.

@Charles Kevlin--I really don't know how to properly respond to this "Holier than thou" attitude, other than - I am really glad that Philadelphia is not in America. If it were, I would not be surprised at anything that happened.

I think it's a very good idea, an idea I can easily support, so I came here to sign the petition assuming it was a way to express my approval of a good idea: But I could not sign a petition that 'Demands' anyone give away and pay to ship what belongs to them. Where do those who 'Demand' get the crust? I didn't sign the petition because it is outrageous.

Harold Ivie

Think I'd like to add: How bout those who 'Demand' the cookies be sent pony up the 'costs'...hmmm??

Kimberly Reynolds

Harold Ivie Actually, Operation Gratitude will ship them at no cost. It doesn't cost the Girl Scouts anything either. Though if makes you feel better, Emma is more than happy to toss in her allowance...well, should would but she already donated her allowance to the Red Cross.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONATE THEM TO LOCAL FOODBANKS> THERE ARE FELLOW GIRL SCOUTS ON THE BASES OVERSEAS TRYING TO SELL COOKIES AS THEIR FUNDRAISERS!

Also of interest: she's being investigated for selling cookies ONLINE which is illegal. Notice she's says for pointing out the cookies being trashed...

Sarah you should get you facts straight before you try to slander an 11 year old. She was not selling online, she was collecting donations for the Girl Scouts I Care program. There is no investigation. They approved of her social media effort originally, then they changed their mind when her troop leader complained. they asked her to stop collecting donations online and she did.

It isn't the Girl Scouts that did this. It is the bakery that did it. They should be going after the bakery not the Girl Scouts....I agree there it too much waste, but it isn't the Girl Scout

They do not own the bakery.

They do not own the bakery but they were in possession of the cookies. Girl Scouts threw them away, not the bakery.

When I tried to join the Girl Scouts, they said they would call back by January and if we didn't get a call to call them. They never called and when we called them, they were very rude, so we decided not to join.

She cannot contact people she knows in the troop? What if they've been long tern her best friends? Okay, This truly TRULY TRULY irritates.

I am going to tell everyone I know never to buy another GS cookie until the organization apologizes up front. Big time and splashy ads. I don't buy them myself, but I have helped support friends who do.

My own comment: GS cookies make my tummy rumble in a bad way. And, I do not consider them food, if you read the ingredient list. However here we have a 11 year old girl finding a solution for unsold cookies that means they won't go to waste and perhaps those troops overseas can make their own choices and eat as they choose -- and there will be less waste. The GS are trying to kick her out unless she conforms to their "ideals" whatever those are. Frankly, I wasn't going to sign the initial...

Frankly, I wasn't going to sign the initial petition, since I'd prefer real food being put together, but this thing from the GS seems to go after her simply since she spoke out. Read the site and make your own decisions.

Very sad to see a social injustice on an 11 year old who sees wrongdoings. Sue the Girl Scout Organization for throwing you out. You have a "good heart" and only used your Right to Free Speech. I was a Girl Scout and so was my daughter. This is sad. All those cookies we bought and sold for them! Shame on the organization. Hate to say this, but you've already learned a valuable like lesson that it's easier to ignore "bad" than to speak out. I see a future Advocate growing up.

If this was Emma's local council doing all this then I would contact someone at headquarters in New York. What they have done to Emma is a travesty. I really think her idea to send the unsold cookies to our troops is a wonderful Idea. Like others have said, she is using the values that she had learned in scouting. Apparently, you are not suppose to think outside the box now and just be a little meek sheep and do nothing for others. What I'm thinking is Council didn't like the fact she...

What I'm thinking is Council didn't like the fact she had garnered so much attention from exposing the waste. Keep up the good work Emma...Also who are they to tell Emma's mom the she cannot contact any of her firends in the troop? This as far as I'm concerned is just plain discrimination. As far as the March date for their "investigation" that was the object for cookie sales to be over.

I did contact National. Yesterday, after 2 weeks of trying to resolve things locally. They told me that National does not get involved in local Council's decisions.

Keep calling National. You may not get the correct person the first, second or even third time. Yes, they can get involved in local council decisions since it is a national Girl Scout sanctioned activity. Stomp your feet louder and harder.

This is SO upsetting that they would treat this little Girl that way. She was standing up for our TROOPS that defend YOUR FREEDOM! I have already ordered cookies this year but you can bet you sweet ass I will never again! Sincerly, Mother of a Son that is enlisting in the US NAVY this June!

Kimbery Reynolds, Is this your daughter? If so you are doing a wonderful job!! I love to see children not conform and stand up for what they believe in. Tell her I admire her courage and to not change. Great people in our country were not followers but leaders! God Bless you and your family!
