OMGoodnes, what a waste! We saw the video on the news, and i got mad, because they're trashing perfectly good cookies that can be sent to our troops, and given to the homeless and food pantries. Donate any cookies that are left!

It is better to toss the cookies in the trash......The Troops don't need all this sugar poison..
Send them something of real value other than junk sugar cookies......

I want to see you thousands of miles from home with nothing but sand and death waiting around any and every corner, Charles. Then I want someone to consider sending you something to remind you of home, then saying, "Nah, this is the bad part of home.. cookies are evil and they don't need this." You, sir, are a dick.

I hate to say it, but this reminds me of what the boyscouts are doing to. I thought that these organizations were about morals and values. I think this is a joke, my kids will not join any troop what so ever. I will teach my kids morals and values on my own. I realize that I am just one person, but I'm going to try my best. Kudo's to Emma for trying to do something that's right

I agree Kelly. Emma worked 12 hours this weekend at booths, selling cookies. After hearing about this petition, I suddenly get a call from Girl Scouts saying Emma is being removed from her troop. It is wrong.

I'm sure the GS are not prepared to handle the situation or the publicity...or they wouldn't be tossing cookies! This is a story to support the organization getting their crumbs together and the GS being reinstated....<3

I don't think GS cookies are food (read the ingredient list...) but I WILL sign the petition now, because that's simply just an evil way to treat this child. She is smart, she has ideas, she needs to be heard. And the troops to whom these cookies could be sent can decide yes or no on consuming them.

Kimberly Reynolds: I suggest forming national organization to fight for her rights as an American and as a Girl Scout. Sue the scum. They make me very angry. Once a Girl Scout, always a Girl Scout. They have shamed me as a Girl Scout.

Let me know. Form it, and I will join.

The Girl Scouts are allowed to return 1% of all sales to ABC Bakery for a full refund. (It actually explains this in the news article, if anyone read it.) If the bakery is offering this return as part of business, then the bakery is the one that should be donating these cookies. Your petition should be for ABC Bakery, not for the Girl Scouts. Though I'm sure all of this ridiculousness is taking up enough of the Girl Scouts' resources that they'll be pressuring ABC Bakery themselves now. I...

Kimberly Reynolds

Actually, the bakery give the Girl Scouts credit for the cookies. It is up to the Girl Scouts to do what they will with the cookies. Therefore, Girl Scouts need to have a policy as to this type of situation. If it were up to ABC, then the Girl Scouts, as their customer, could have them donate the cookies. Either way, the buck needs to stop with the organization who has their name on the box. Business 101.

Ceil Kessler
Ceil Kessler
  • Ceil Kessler

My guess is that they had no idea what the bakery was doing with the 1% they got credit for. For all they knew, they were giving them to employees. I don't have a problem with the petition, but I do take issue with the tone. People are acting like they're kicking dogs, and laughing about it. I think all you'd have to do is ask them to donate them. My experience with the Girl Scouts is that they're reasonable people.

Kimberly Reynolds
Kimberly Reynolds

The bakery didn't even have the cookies. They were in the Girl Scouts warehouse. I agree, this is not infanticide, but if you knew the horrible way they treated Emma, you would not find them to be reasonable at all. Though, again, I recognize that this is just one council, not the whole organization. However, there has been a distinct lack of attention or responsibility in this matter by the organization as a whole. At some point, some one needs to advocate change. In this case, it is an 11 year old.

If this was Emma's local council doing all this then I would contact someone at headquarters in New York. What they have done to Emma is a travesty. I really think her idea to send the unsold cookies to our troops is a wonderful Idea. Like others have said, she is using the values that she had learned in scouting. Apparently, you are not suppose to think outside the box now and just be a little meek sheep and do nothing for others. What I'm thinking is Council didn't like the fact she...

Keep up the good work Emma...Also who are they to tell Emma's mom the she cannot contact any of her firends in the troop? This as far as I'm concerned is just plain discrimination. As far as the March date for their "investigation" that was the object for cookie sales to be over.

They just don't want to get their hands dirty on this one . They want to leave it on the troops door steeps in the town that you live in .

I don't understand this. Our council encourages the girls to get cookie orders for Troop donations, there is even a specific way to do it through the order protocol, and for other places too; we have donated to food pantries, St Jude, Target House, etc...We definitely don't throw away our leftovers! Emily - I understand your frustration but realize not all councils do this. Maybe you would consider being a Juliette (independent scout not connected with a particular troop). Work to figure...

My council was so corrupt, over a 4-month period they canned 6 good, experienced employees for completely bullshit reasons -- and then (because the terminations were 'disciplinary') they refused to pay out accrued vacation & sick time. Sneaky, underhanded, DISHONEST -- THAT'S the girl scout "leadership" of today.

Firstly, Emma is an honor student and a gifted writer. Secondly, OF COURSE I helped my daughter. What decent parent doesn't oversee their 11year old daughter's online activity? Thirdly, this is Emma's cause. I am merely supporting her. Perhaps you don't appreciate the intelligence, drive and aptitude of today's youth.

I am so proud. I'm sad that she had to leave the Girl Scouts because she worked so hard, but she said something really cool to me today. She said that when she started selling, it was all about the prizes (they give the girls these pamphlets that outline prizes for each level of sales) but when she saw how almost no one donated to I Care for the troops, it really made her upset. She was determined then to make a difference. I don't think she (or they!) had any idea what was coming.
