The bankruptcy law was rewritten by Bush, and the republicans in 2005 to benefit credit card companies, and other corporations, a company can declare bankruptcy, and void all union contracts etc, but a common person cannot write off a student loan.

I was not going to sign this petition as I have a fundamental belief that what you borrow you should repay. However, after reading the comments--particularly Stacia Kingston's comment--I realize that these loans have turned into predatory procedures against the recipients. The banks and lending institutions need to be held accountable for their disreputable behavior and decisions. Consumers, especially students, need to be protected from this predatory loan process.

I've been haunted by a student loan like a cancerous sore for twenty plus years, and it won't go away, no matter how much money I send them, enough is enough!

Student loan rules are more restrictive than the IRS, even they will negotiate a lower pay-off. There is something VERY wrong with the limitless powers of Sallie Mae and Direct Loans.

I've paid off my credit cards and all 3 credit scores are over 730 and I can't even get my own car loan due to my student debt. I work 2 jobs and I'm looking for a 3 one just to keep my head above water. I really need help. Millions of people need help.

Hi Alan, I was told by the Fed. Student Loans, Sallie Mae, that I did not qualify for IBR because I was only working part time. I explained to Sallie Mae, after I had to practically yell to get the woman to listen, that I was hire full time but because of medical conditions I could only work part time right now. She put my loans in defferment. This still doesn't help in the long run it merely delays the pain.
