I suggest you educate yourself: http://www.studentloanjustice.org/argument.htm . Spouting advice that everyone agrees with does nothing to solve our problem.

Circumstances beyond my control interfered with my ability to pay back my loans. Research the evidence before making ignorant judgments.

The bankruptcy law was rewritten by Bush, and the republicans in 2005 to benefit credit card companies, and other corporations, a company can declare bankruptcy, and void all union contracts etc, but a common person cannot write off a student loan.

I was not going to sign this petition as I have a fundamental belief that what you borrow you should repay. However, after reading the comments--particularly Stacia Kingston's comment--I realize that these loans have turned into predatory procedures against the recipients. The greed of these lending institutions cannot be overstated. I disagreed with the bank bailouts and now I disagree even more. I've been haunted by a student loan like a cancerous sore for twenty plus years, and it won't go away, no matter how much money I send them, enough is enough!

Student loan rules are more restrictive than the IRS, even they will negotiate a lower pay-off. There is something VERY wrong with the limitless powers of Sallie Mae and Direct Loans.

I saw that. I thought no one could top Bill Bennett, who pissed away $25 million, but she takes the cake, eats it, and gets 100 more.

I believe that this cause would get a lot more signatures for this petition if Causes didn't require "to access your public profile, friend list, email address, birthday, hometown, current city and your friends' current cities" to do so. There is no reason Causes should have/need all of this information. Though I really wanted to sign the petition, I would have passed on it if it hadn't been necessary to post this comment.

This is bad. The only things Congress require are your full name, address, and zip code. This is to prove you are in their district and you are actually a real person, not someone trying to "stuff the ballot" with fraudulent signatures.
