Regardless of climate change or global warming, coal mining and oil drilling pollute the environment; destroy ecosystems (such as mountain tops, forests and marine areas); endanger the species that live in them; lead to violence and eviction of indigenous people (such as Canadian Inuit, Native Americans and Australian Aboriginals); and even involve the murder of indigenous people and activists (in South America, South-East Asia and Africa). Fossil fuel reserves are limited so it is necessary to develop alternatives sooner or later anyway. Biomass and biofuels are worse than fossil fuels because they lead to increased destruction of forests and compete with food production for land. Solar panels and photovoltaic cells installed on the rooftops and walls of all kinds of buildings seem like the best solution (as long as they are not manufactured from rare minerals that involve war and ecological destruction and are recycled at the end of their useful life).

There is this myth that some group called "they" believed the climate was cooling in the 1970s. What scientists thought was far different from what "they" thought. "They" was probably the folks at Newsweek who wrote an article claiming global warming which was very wrong. Most scientists thought that global warming was the more likely scenario, but whatever their opinion most scientists felt that a lot more research was necessary. That research has been done and global warming due to human...

That research has been done and global warming due to human activities is the what is happening. Solar flares have been researched and eliminated as a cause. You are unfortunately restating all the fossil fuel industry propaganda about global warming which is completely false and misleading.

Some facts, not mythology. The earth was waemer 1000 years ago than it is now. When Leif Erickson set sail and landed in North America in the year 1000, he lrft from his father's FARM in Greenland. He called the place he landed (Newfoundland) Vinland because of the abundance of grapes. Now there are no faems in greenland and few grapes on thre northern tip of Newfoundland. Real climatologists (not PC ones) refer to the period between the 900's and 1200's as the medieval warm period. In the 1200's cooling began, leading tio the Mini-Ice-Age which extended to the early 1700's. Temps have been gradually increasing since. Snow cap on Kilimanjaro has been shrinking since at least 1880, when monitoring first started. Since end of Ice Age approx 10,000 years ago, sea level has risen 400 feet, an average of 4 feet a year. In the 20th century, it rose 8 inches. Environmental alarmism is nothing new. A previous poster indicated that in the 1970's they were talking about global cooling. In fact both Time and Newsweek ran cover stories predicted a new Ice age. One of the biggest scaremongers. Paul Ehrlich said we will all be daed by the 90's. As you can see, that happened. Much of this hoax is being pushed by al gore. Do you really want to believe a guy who claimed that just below th surface ot the earth, the temp is "millions of degrees."
