I commend this woman for standing her ground. It takes a great amount of courage to face the offender, family, friends and the general public that sits in the courtroom. I can't understand why the jury can't see that this is RAPE, PERIOD! As many had posted, rape IS A VIOLATION OF ONE'S PERSON. I do hope that together we can get the law in N.Y.changed.

hi, it's very sad to see this, they must be severe in your courts and punish him for a sentence.

Rape is a forced sexual assault/violation. It is always unwanted, nonsolicited and disgustingly detestible. It is never an action taken by a rational person. There is not excuse for any one or group of people to define such action as less than rape when it is rape. Look in the dictionary!

Forcing yourself or being forced by someone in actions against one's will is condemnable mostly when these forceful acts are committed with an absolute disregard for the targeted victim(s) and that such perpetrator has no qualms about doing it. A public consequential punishment would do good to discourage others to duplicate same. The important is making sure that the accused one is really guilty of such and not set up for personal revenge.

Mli says new laws rape is rape and that was horrible.

It is horrible what happened to this woman. It's good that the perpetrator was sentenced to 85 years to LIFE regardless of what the offense is titled. Regardless, I hope the legal wording in New York is changed.

He was a cop. I'm sure the police and judge took care of him. The thin blue line. If it were up to me rapists would be a capital offence.

Never seems to amaze me how backward the so- called land off the free is. I hope it not too long for some common sense laws on Rape.

The jerk got 85 years to life in prison regardless, right?

Vasanthasenan Periathambi

I understand that even in Indian law, the rape is defined as actual penetration. More traumatic to a woman inthe court -a second rape mentally.
