Until the HUMAN Race encompasses a "single" flag that unites the Entire World as "1".We will forever go on killing each other whether it be political, religious.customs or a Flag war.Shows how intelligent we really are.Maybe just a 3 dimentional picture of EARTH as it sits in the universe would/could be a start. Then I accept change.Cheer's & Love to All.

Ron, In the same vein, there are 5, Sth American Countries, all ex Spanish Colonies, with, bar small changes,
The Same Flag. They are Colombia, Equador, Peru, Bolivia and Venezuela. I don't see any of them, changing their Flags!

THE NATIONAL FLAG IS NOT FASHION.
After Lenin took over government in Russia by tittle" October Revolution 1917", he replaced the traditional flag by communist one: Red cover and sickle stuck hammer, 74 years later, communist regime collapsed, then on December 26, 1991, Russia people returned its traditional flag. The national flag stuck to history, changing flag means destructive history, betrayal country. Today someone want to change flag and tomorrow the others will change, the national...

your whole petition is factually incorrect and you have no idea about the actual meaning of the elements of our flag, or it's history.

1. the current design did not exist in 1901. the 1901 version had only six points on the commonwealth star. the seventh point was not added until 1905.
2. The Union Jack on our flag represents our obediance to the British Commonwealth, Not 'the ideals upon which we were founded'. I don't believe the Union Jack has ever had a meaning as you describe and can...

3. The southern cross is not there to remind us of 'our rich and precious Aboriginal and Torres Strait heritage.' in 1901 indigenous australians were not recognized as equals. and not even recognised as part of the population of the country the resided in. They were not even granted citizenship until 1967.

To all the commenters below. The flag has nothing to do with war. Noone ever died for our flag - they died for ideals and to suggest they died simply for a flag does them a great injustice.

Get over it - we should update our flag to something more meaningful and representative of our nation, it's people, and ideals - We are not a nation of servitude to the British Empire.

I have only one comment, the Australian flag is one that has earned respect, through out our world. It has been the flag of Australia, since 1953, that is 60 years, no need for a change. The same as any flag , that has earned respect, whether the flag of the U.S. or Canada or Great Britain, or any land, why the change? Can you change citizens, by changing a flag, the answer is a definite, no.

No one fought or died under or for a flag. They fought and died full stop. No flag brought anything together...they are symbols of division. Yours/mine. One flag against another. We have been fighting to maintain our given rights since the club was invented. Such is our passion for fighting for what 'we' believe that all forecasts point to oblivion. Stop hoisting flags and ask yourself...will our lives improve if we do or don't change the flag?
