What the Frack? This really is a sad story and it scares me to know how many people are unaware of the present and future dangers to their own personal survival. I fully agree that humanity must resort to using the safest methods of producing energy as of right now. We can all help by spreading the word via the internet and the media. Do it! Thanks. They are doing this in the UK too. The politicians are crazy and are blind to the environmental harm they are causing. This is absolute insanity. What needs to be done to make these dimwits listen?

Thank you for supporting this. We need big voices and a revolution of the people now to stop this happening there in the US and other countries.. Like us in Australia. :((

Thank you for making this more visible! I own property upstate and I was so upset when I heard that they were going to propose fracking in my area. We all got invitations to come to Town Hall to listen to what the frackers (and their attorneys) had to say. They made it all so wonderful. It's no surprise that all the neighbors got excited. Nobody wanted to hear anything negative about it. The promise of more money in a month than most of the people make in a year is quite tempting. ...

People are tired and broke and it's easier to believe the lies than to fight City Hall. I will continue to spread the word that fracking is dirty, unsafe and it's ruining the beautiful rolling hills that I love.

Yoko, We are regretfully in the position of having to relocate people. After relocating one gentleman from an area close to a gas processing plant, his rashes cleared up and he now has the color back in his face. It won't help the cancer that he now has, but at least he can breathe clean air. I know you want to stop it from coming to New York, but can you please help get a benefit together to help these people that are most affected "get away" to a place with clean air and clean water. The Harper Goverment is doing this to the firstnations ancestorial sites, they don't care if it poisons the lakes and rivers around us either, all our salmon fish aren't going to be going up river anymore in one river near victoria bc canada, it turned neon green already.

The coorporations have been given Australia. And the fracking is in full swing. They have changed the law to allow for fast track development. They have pre sold the gas on the Speculators market. They are sucking the life from our planet..They must be stopped. See" Story of Stuff".

Please do some actual research before you buy into this BS! The nice little graphic at the top is sort of accurate, except the fractures created in the bedrock are several thousands of feet below the surface & the "toxic chemicals" referred to are nothing but naturally occurring chemical salts. If, the aquifer is being contaminated with the chemical salts, the operators in the area are not completing their wells properly. As someone with a petroleum engineering background, I have 100%...

As someone with a petroleum engineering background, I have 100% confidence that a properly cased & cemented gas well that has been correctly cemented will NOT contaminate ground water. Gravity works people & the pressures applied are barely sufficient to fracture the shale in the target loan. They do absolutely nothing to the thousands of feet of bedrock above them. If they did, everyone would be happy as clams because they would be producing gas & oil from their water wells.

On second thought, never mind. If you believe that susan Sarandon & Yoko Ono have a thorough understanding of petroleum engineering & reservoir engineering, please sign the petition so they will ban drilling in the US so the O&G industry will move overseas & we can all pay $15/gallon for gas & proportionally more for plastics.

I live in Central PA in an area that thank God is not being fracked. I have seen the damage done to the surrounding areas though. Steve, even if what you say is true, apparently, the companies that are fracking here in PA (as well as another area in Wyoming that is experiencing the same problems) are so incompetent that they are unable to to properly case and cement the gas wells that they are drilling. Or perhaps they are just so greedy that they do not care, are taking shortcuts or...

Or perhaps they are just so greedy that they do not care, are taking shortcuts or whatever. The evidence speaks for itself...regardless of what you or anyone else says, thinks or theorizes. Unfortunately, Corbett as well as others in this area who are allowing this are ignorant fools who are blinded by money. They have been sold a bill of goods by the gas drillers and are too stupid and or greedy to recognize the truth. They only recognize the millions of dollars they are making off of it. So Steve, you just keep on fantasizing about that perfect gas well in your dreams.

By the way Steve, in regard to plastics, ever heard of the Eastern Garbage Patch?
