What the Frack? This really is a sad story and it scares me to know how many people are unaware of the present and future dangers to their own personal survival. I fully agree that humanity must resort to using the safest methods of producing energy as of right now. We can all help by spreading the word via the internet and the media. Do it! Thanks. They are doing this in the UK too. The politicians are crazy and are blind to the environmental harm they are causing. This is absolute insanity. What needs to be done to make these dimwits listen?

Interesting how supposed "Christians" can justify destruction of peoples lives so Corporations can get rich. Guess they have a very different interpretation of Christ's message than I ever read in the bible.

We have a similar situation in Western PA. 30 families now impacted. Through a local church we are supplying the families with 20 gallons of drinking water per week. (Less than the Red Cross standard for water in a disaster situation). But these people are grateful. The last time I helped at the water distribution event one thing really hit me the hard. I was helping load water into a vehicle. There were three little boys in the back seat watching us... ages ranging approx. 4-8. These...

I was helping load water into a vehicle. There were three little boys in the back seat watching us... ages ranging approx. 4-8. These little boys let out a shout "Yippee, we're getting water!" You would have thought that they were getting new bicycles or the latest video game... they were so excited. I had to remind myself that this is the United States, not a third world country. And yes, Yoko, it made me cry.

It's OUR own DUMB fault!
AMERICA continues to WASTE over 70% of the energy we consume!
100's of Millions of lights burn unnecessarily every day and night all over AMERICA!
We OverHeat, OverCool, & OverDRIVE as if it doesn't matter. Our hedonist waste is inexcusable, unforgivable, and suicidal. Global warming continues to increases with our persistent waste and overuse of fossil fuels. Human extinction will be the reward for our failure to rapidly and broadly implement renewable energy...

Human extinction will be the reward for our failure to rapidly and broadly implement renewable energy supplies. The incentives necessary to implement sustainable and renewable energy supplies can only occur when we employ the economics of TAXING ENERGY. Crude oil must be taxed at $160 per barrel(42 gal) and this 'energy consumption tax' be OFFSET by making Federal Income Tax begin at $60k. Only with a substantial and tangible dollar consequence/reward will there be the incentive to conserve energy.
World demand for energy cannot continue to be supported by the dwindling and costly fossil fuel 'supply'. Ford, GM, and Chrysler continue toward bankrupt, yet basically continue to do business as usual. They must transition to the lucrative business of building SOLAR and wind 'energy producers' for the world's 6.7 BILLION people reason$. They already have the needed infrastructure to mass produce, sell, and install these products. Failure to innovate the auto industry away from energy consumption to energy production will ultimately cause the ruin our economy and the environment.
Look around you; the energy waste is EVERYWHERE!
Use your influence and resources to promote Energy Conservation.
Americans need to be ever reminded/told to STOP the/our/your Energy WASTE!

Thanks for a great letter and sharing. We must seek responsibility on a personal level, I guess Gandhi quote "you must be the change you wish to see in the world" cover this. What you are pinpointing is actually Eco compassion, one incident in one place might affect elsewhere or at another time. I use the expression Eco compassion. I believe to learn about sustainability and take care of Earth should be learn already in schools at an early change. This text is taken for one of the many post...

Sustainability starts with basic values.
Sustainability without starting with the fundamental values is nothing more than flicking; if you want to build a house that can develop long term Eco consciousness and start without the pillars will be a bad plan and difficult. We need to learn a set of basic skills based on another way of measuring development in economic terms; therefore, education systems must be content valuable teachings about things that cannot be measured so easily. These must be learned continuous from early stage. Sustainability within a society is the ability to maintain the level of reproduction and balance of needs as food, shelter, energy over time. In addition, values as respect, tolerance, compassion where religion plays still a significant role today. However, I feel that most of the religious leaders have failed to communicate these values. I'm with you, Yoko! We have to stop fracking in its tracks before everyone's drinking water turns brown. Read and sign to stop Gov. Cuomo from allowing it in NY.

Please do some actual research before you buy into this BS! The nice little graphic at the top is sort of accurate, except the fractures created in the bedrock are several thousands of feet below the surface & the "toxic chemicals" referred to are nothing but naturally occurring chemical salts. The nice little graphic at the top is sort of accurate, except the fractures created in the bedrock are several thousands of feet below the surface & the "toxic chemicals" referred to are nothing but naturally occurring chemical salts. If, the aquifer is being contaminated with the chemical salts, the operators in the area are not completing their wells properly. As someone with a petroleum engineering background, I have 100% confidence that a properly cased & cemented gas well that has been correctly cemented will NOT contaminate ground water. Gravity works people & the pressures applied are barely sufficient to fracture the shale in the target loan. They do absolutely nothing to the thousands of feet of bedrock above them. If they did, everyone would be happy as clams because they would be producing gas & oil from their water wells.

On second thought, never mind. If you believe that susan Sarandon & Yoko Ono have a thorough understanding of petroleum engineering & reservoir engineering, please sign the petition so they will ban drilling in the US so the O&G industry will move overseas & we can all pay $15/gallon for gas & proportionally more for plastics.

I live in Central PA in an area that thank God is not being fracked. I have seen the damage done to the surrounding areas though. Steve, even if what you say is true, apparently, the companies that are fracking here in PA (as well as another area in Wyoming that is experiencing the same problems) are so incompetent that they are unable to to properly case and cement the gas wells that they are drilling. Or perhaps they are just so greedy that they do not care, are taking shortcuts or...

Or perhaps they are just so greedy that they do not care, are taking shortcuts or whatever. The evidence speaks for itself...regardless of what you or anyone else says, thinks or theorizes. Unfortunately, Corbett as well as others in this area who are allowing this are ignorant fools who are blinded by money. They have been sold a bill of goods by the gas drillers and are too stupid and or greedy to recognize the truth. They only recognize the millions of dollars they are making off of it. So Steve, you just keep on fantasizing about that perfect gas well in your dreams.

Can't 'like' this- actually I rather 'dislike' it -it's sad and pathetic what these poor people are being forced to endure.

Thank you Yoko and Sean for all you're doing!
