Just make sure you talk to your doctor first before you listen to someone on the internet telling you to change your diet drastically...

PS: Vegan/vegetarianism isn't healthy for everyone.

Kelly Shelton : Only the murderous and torturous meat-/dairy-/egg industry aligned people would tell someone to abstain from the healthiest diet on the planet. Are you one of them ?

Billy, you got it. People who align with this are cold-hearted , mindless, deniers, selfish enough to let other beings die for their palate and 15 minutes of taste. If they would have to eat raw flesh for the rest of their lives they wouldn't do it either. Of course some will now argue they would, but trust me they are lying for profit. The difference between a Zombie and a Vegan diet in taste are solely salt, pepper, herbs, etc. Once you taste a well-done Vegan meal, you will understand...

But make sure you taste it at a place that knows what they are doing. Go inform yourself : www.facebook.com/IAMU.WeR1

Kelly....ignore what they say. Just because we are from the same species doesn't mean we are all the same inside. You should always consult a Dr. before making any drastic changes in your diet. Patricia...I eat raw red meat and I LOVE it!!!!! Sushi is damn good too. Anything from the ocean I will eat raw. Yummmy!!!!!!!!! I would eat bugs if I had to. Unless you are growing your own veggies, you are consuming many different chemicals, so what is better? Guess your body was built to digest...

See we are all different. Have a happy day all. Do what is best for you as an individual.

Kelsie, we're not gonna listen to your spins and
sugar-coating of the issue and/or walk lock-step to
the status quo of the Dark Ages.
I foresee your future generations, as vegans and vegetarians,
rejecting your meat-and-potatoes traditions and going against
the status quo of the Old West and the meat industry
will be extinct....

The original post stated, "Most recently undercover video footage exposed workers kicking and punching pigs at a Tyson supplier's facility, in contrast to Tyson's claims to be a leader in animal well-being." In my comment I was saying that not all Tyson's workers did that. I was defending Tyson, not saying that they all mistreat their animals. So, Anna, that answers your question. Nancy, I don't understand what you're implying. Linda, I was just giving you facts to back up my information other than my "opinion" on the issue.

I suggest people do some actual research on animal behavior, welfare, and husbandry. If you are eating chicken that claims to be "cage-free," guess what...ALL broiler chickens in this country are raised sans cage. Egg-laying hens can be raised "free-range" or in cages. Unless Tyson is beating their chickens, nothing that they are doing is wrong. They do extensive research on animal welfare and hire experts to decide each decision they make. I work at a Tyson's plant. There are USDA workers everywhere. If one of them or a member of management catches someone mistreating a chicken and if it is serious enough the employee is fired on the spot. Tyson chickens are fed mainly corn bought from area farmers.

When done properly, the raising and slaughtering of livestock animals is done humanely, without any pain, and with as little stress to the animal as possible. This is thanks to modern agricultural practices.

If you drive a car or ride a bike, the tires are very likely made with animal-based stearic acid. If you use shampoo or conditioner, they are typically made with more than a dozen animal-based components. Brush your teeth? Glycerin is made from animal and vegetable fats. As you can...

If you drive a car or ride a bike, the tires are very likely made with animal-based stearic acid. If you use shampoo or conditioner, they are typically made with more than a dozen animal-based components. Brush your teeth? Glycerin is made from animal and vegetable fats. As you can see, animals are a necessity to society, and it's the agriculturalist's job to see that they are all treated with utmost dignity and respect. I personally believe that someone with a Ph.D. in Animal Behavior will know much more about "animal emotion" than a typical animal rights activist.

And to everyone who stoops low enough to personally attack someone who disagrees with you - unfortunately your argument is invalid. A true argument does not involve the personal degradation of either party.

I like your post, J...it seems this happens alot. If you don't agree with some people's opinions, way of life, idealologies...they make you out to be a unenlightened knuckle-dragging moron who needs to be led around by the nose. You don't want to eat meat? Fine, don't eat it...but I eat meat and I like it and that is nothing to you. I don't believe that animals have souls although I know they feel pain...and if someone is caught mistreating animals they should be proscecuted to the full extent of the law.

Ya, homo sapiens, keep being naive and staying ignorant, keep lying to yourselves and to your kids to make you feel better, keep destroying this planet and massacring all living beings (included farm animals that are born to suffer and die in hell) ... this world has no chance at all anyhow. The only decent way of existence is to live a vegan lifestyle. End of a story. Get educated and open your eyes and think for yourselves. I as all other vegans live completely without dependence on any animal products and we do use a toothpaste. Common. This is where to start: http://www.pcrm.org/ and watch documentary called 'Earthlings' to understand the horrors of this planet. Enough is enough. And please stop trying to justify the human greed and selfishness. It is insulting and only people that you will appeal to are ignorant and self gratifying. No thinking individual will take such ideas seriously.

Before you listen to the folks that are telling you to "Go Vegan!" make sure you talk to a doctor (one with a Ph.D! Not necessarily a dietitian. You don't need to be a doctor to be a dietitian!) The vegan/vegetarian lifestyle, while a nice ideal, isn't actually healthy for everyone. Serious complications can arise if you aren't getting the necessary nutrients out of food and supplements (which can happen.)

It's not just the animals. That is bad enough, but the labor pratices are aweful too. They hire immigrant workers from multiple countries with many different languages and provide the safety "training" in English. They can't even communicate with a lot of thier workforce. Workers are injured all the time and they cover it up.

Even if they wanted and attempted to implement an animal welfare innitative, it would only be window dressing, because the line employees wouldn't have a clue what...

Even if they wanted and attempted to implement an animal welfare innitative, it would only be window dressing, because the line employees wouldn't have a clue what the new instructions were telling them to do (or not to do). All this cut production costs, make cheap low-grade meat, and a ton of money for the company.
