This is wrong to kill this outstanding animal just for ivory unnecessary suffering

It is hard to believe that petitions like this one still circulate it means there are still humans with such low perception and corrupted values it is truly unbelievable that we humans portray our self as most advanced yet capable of the lowest tolerance and behavior among the nature.

when you have humans that, for the almighty dollar or ruple or whatever, that have no concerns for protected wildlife or raping of the environment or humans such as John Browne then you will continue to have this unacceptable behavior from these "humans"

Tom Sky: Please post in your newspaper connections: "The assumption that animals are without rights, and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance, is a positively outrageous example of western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality." Arthur Schopenhauer, "The Basis of Morality." (I have more quotes?)

Signed. We have a piano with ivory keys. We would never purchase ivory but it's been in the family for many decades, and has been passed down from our great grandmother. It is a horrible, archaic trade that NEEDS to stop, but I will continue to play on the piano, as to throw it away or sell it would only further diminish the importance of those poor dear creatures who perished in order for it to be created.
I don't mean to detract from this grave issue but this is a similar issue I'd like...

Yes!!! the govornment needs to shoot to kill on site above that they need to find out who is funding these poaching. Find the culprit and let justice handle them

Janice Burdick

Suchanh, it might BE the government who is funding the poaching. Certainly the government in the U.S. funds all kinds of horrible crimes...truly, you might want to check in to that.

Janice is correct, i.e., there's little doubt that government corruption plays a significant role in poaching the world over, making the loss of innumerable species all but but impossible to stop.

Sadly, animals -- be they endangered or not -- are nothing more than a commodity to some. We need to make the price of poaching -- for the gunmen to the end consumers -- much larger than the reward. Until then, it will remain a seller's market.

Wouldn't be surprised in the LEAST if people from here were funding it. Depending on who in the government you're talking about.

AS sad as this may seem to the Western mind, some poachers do what they do because of the various "needs" of the same people who what to shoot them. If you have a family to feed and your livelihood has been taken from you (lost your farm to Monsanto, land no longer fertile trying to keep up with Western touted conventional farming. Killing elephants for their ivory or for any reason (including destroying them as a species due to habitat encroachment ) is abhorrent, but let's look beyond...

Janice Burdick Very good point. We are spoiled living in this country and have taken our roles in this country for granted. There is a lot of money involved here and anybody could be involved.

there is no excuse for superstitious abusement and exploiment. Also there is no logical reason to eat meet. Even the fishes r suffering horrible tortures when get caught and struggeling outside of the water. The right for living has to be placed abouve every culture or traditional aspects. There is no forgiveness at all!

I wish more people thought like you! What a beautiful world we would live in, if people would wake up and cast away old, destructive ways of thinking. We (society) are clinging to methodologies and habits that no longer are adaptive or suitable to our evolving planet and life forms. Eating meat is so passé, as is wearing fur, buying ivory, and many other life-denying practices...we need to engage in life-affirming activities and teach the next generations how to preserve and cultivate life...

Eating meat is so passé, as is wearing fur, buying ivory, and many other life-denying practices...we need to engage in life-affirming activities and teach the next generations how to preserve and cultivate life rather than stunt or destroy life, like their ancestors, who initially didn't know better. Now we have the know how & technology to live cruelty-free, but unfortunately most people still choose not to, preferring to cling to old, outdated lifestyles out of convenience and fear of new ideas.

dear Lisa,
to be realistic enaugh, we just can try to be guidelights. We can get some audience by partaking school courses and win the speakers (professors and so on) to grant us holding a speech hour to the class. It was my experience not long ago. So, if there is a course in theology, ethics or similar to, we can use it.

Yes, our best hope is to teach the children & young folk, who are more open to ideas & not rigid in their attachment to old ways, like most adults are. I am thankful for Internet because it helps promote & spread awareness of things that otherwise people might never know about. No more can evil hide in secret corners of the world, thanks to viral video and Internet broadcasts available to everyone with access, whether through computer, phone, tablet, laptop etc.

The poachers r very dangerous, it's hard to get to them. We must stop them, not the country, Please Have any of you been there and seen how hard people R risking their lives to kill the poachers, desperately. But the poachers end up killing them. Why don't we all go and hide like the citizens of S. Africa and try to get to the poachers before they do. The poachers are Evil, Evil people, we agree there, I cry about it.
