Animals are such an important role in raising children. I feel all children should be raised with pets, to learn to be compassionate and respectful of all animals. They are such a resource of may positive tools to families!

I met a woman a few weeks ago that told me she was trying to get her 15 yr old daughter pregnant so they could continue to get EBT and basically free welfare. The kids around her were filthy and so while I think that in a perfect society this would be great, there are shity ass people that keep having kids and TREAT their kids like shit just to get their nails done & pay 'some" bills. PEOPLE ABUSE the system w children so you can be your wallet that people will abuse this program too. I...

PEOPLE ABUSE the system w children so you can be your wallet that people will abuse this program too. I say give seniors the help and for someone to pop in for a visit to make sure that animals are well treated cuz you know how seniors are abused too. I hate to say this but the amount of ignorance is ridiculous. They need to put a band on breeders on Craigslist & those that have no license and etc! FREE SPAY should be availabe everywhere as well along with discount shots.

Good post Ivette! You are so right about the welfare recpients in this country. Most are able bodied, but just to lazy to work and would rather shit out a bunch of illigetimate kids for US to take care of. Most of the kids never see the money or the food that's supplied by the govt. They are not cared for and only born to bring in a govt. check. Those individuals should not receive one more cent of our money and allowed to have only pets THEY can afford to take care of, which is none. But...

Those individuals should not receive one more cent of our money and allowed to have only pets THEY can afford to take care of, which is none. But for people who already have pets and fall on hard times I think the means should be made available for them to get help, especially seniors and those on disability who can't change their situation readily. And breeders and puppymills should have been banned yesterday, and prevented from breeding anymore animals until all the shelters are empty.

Kathy and Ivette, please cite your credible source of information as to "most" welfare recipients being able bodied but too lazy to work. Where exactly did you obtain this information, how recent is it, what agency compiled the data? And I also wonder how you would you know what people are thinking - as in what they would "rather" do - or what people's reason is for bringing children into the world? Do you think it might have anything to do with the fact that birth control is expensive and...

Do you think it might have anything to do with the fact that birth control is expensive and it's not covered by insurance - that is, if you even could even afford insurance or have a job that provides it. Your mind-reading ability is most impressive. Is that how you found out that these kids "never see the money or the food that's supplied by the govt" or have you met them personally? Just for the record, the "govt" does not "supply food" - they provide a very minimal amount of credit on a plastic card that the recipient takes to the grocery store to purchase food items. It's extremely difficult to qualify for this help any more, especially since the budget cuts - and even if you do qualify, a family of EIGHT might receive a MAXIMUM of around $900 per month. In case you think that's a lot, consider that a box of cereal costs almost $5; milk $4+ per gallon; cheap hamburger over $4/pound and it takes two pounds to feed that many people even one small serving. Also consider that most families aren't 8 people, so they're receiving about $300 a month for the WHOLE FAMILY. I'd love to see how much you spend at the grocery store. I'm quite certain it's far more than that. People should stop buying into the myth of the "welfare queen" - it wasn't true then, and it certainly isn't true now.

It's sad when people really love their pets but can't afford the costs involved. My prayers for you Andrea - and ALL people - who are in this situation. God bless ALL people and the people who are passionate about them! xo xo xo xo xo xo

Too many pets are surrenderd to shelters b/c its expensive, The Humane Society has a program that if you qualify you can't get help if your pet needs veterinary care.. thank you, Wendy.

Pets have proven benefits for peoples' health [which saves the health care system money and time] and have saved the lives of many families when safety measures such as smoke alarms, etc., have malfunctioned. They are more than worthy of this support!
