My great granddaughter Emma Marie Shelley was born at UAMS Little Rock July 18, 2011, and stayed there 94 days. The hospital was well equipped to take care of her as well as her mother, Amanda Shelley. Emma's daddy Jesse drove the 3-1/2 hour drive from Fayetteville, AR to be with her for most of the stay. The hospital staff cared for Emma as if she belonged to each one of them. Today, Emma weighs 26 lbs, is 18 months old and she is running all over the place, playing with her toys, and...

Today, Emma weighs 26 lbs, is 18 months old and she is running all over the place, playing with her toys, and repeating the words, "Good Girl" when she is following instructions. She is so loving to each of us, and we can truly testify, that the bonding which took place while she was in the hospital is what has made her such a happy little girl today. From the 2 lb tiny bundle of joy back then to the chunky little toddler she is today has enriched all of our lives with the knowledge that God is in the miracle working business!

We may have left Arkansas but my family and friends still there deserve the best available care for themselves and their future children. NICU's are very important and there should be one within an hours drive of everywhere.... I know that would be alot more of them being built and staffed but the families of the patients would gladly support even a small one in their area for the good of the children. They are our future, why not start them off with the best care possible when they truely need it?

Our daughter was born at 25 weeks and 2 days. We lived a half hour away from the hospital and at least one parent was ALWAYS with her from 8 am to 9 pm EVERY day for 4 months. We did as much kangaroo care as possible. We watched other kids whose parents lived further away flounder. The babies know if their parents are there. Our child is a healthy 6 year old now. I guess the question to ask is does your governor care if your babies live or die? If he did, he would not make it harder for parents to be with their kids.

My grandson was in the NICU in Ms. for 7 weeks. I was able to be with him everyday for hours because it was so close to home. It made such a difference in his recovery ! If we were later than normal getting there for our visit, the nurses said he'd get fussy. And many times we'd come in and his crying would stop the minute he'd hear our voices. YES YES YES, IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE ! Ya'll are in our prayers

My nephew was born 14 weeks too soon, and our family will never forget the amazing care and love provided by the NICU staff in Wilmington, Delaware (Christiana Care Hospital). My nephew is now a healthy and happy toddler :) I have signed this petition, and will urge everyone I know here in NY to do the same. I wish you the best of luck with your cause.

As the mother of a child who spent most of her life in NICU, PICU and CICU, I am a firm believer that a mother and father should have as much access to their child as possible. I believe in the powers of healing touch. My daughter survived for 8 years and the majority of those years were spent in an...

It is hard to form a bond with your child when the first days and months of the infants life is spent away from the arms of family. Sick babies NEED the loving touch of their mothers and fathers. I believe in the powers of healing touch. My daughter survived for 8 years and the majority of those years were spent in an ICU. Had I not had immediate, sterile access to her I would have missed out on most of her life. PLEASE do not limit a parents time with their infant. One just never knows how much time is available.

I do want to add that every ICU my daughter was in was top notch. Our last days were spent in the CICU (Cardiovascular) at Arkansas Children's in Little Rock and the staff and care Mary Ashlee received was phenomenal. WHY? Because I was able to spend as much time with her as i could. Also, as we were from out of town, a Ronald McDonald house was directly across the street providing us with a room at a small fee OR whatever one could afford, whenever one could afford. I FULLY support this...

I know first hand I had two premature babies, and I was able to stay with both of mind.there was an company that provide me with money and clothes while I was there..i think its important that a mother and father should be able to stay with there baby, the first few hour of a baby life is a bonding moments between a mother and child.
