I' m sorry I didn't see this earlier or I would have signed Pauline's petition. I truly hope that she gets her new passport. It is a travesty to treat her this way.

People with disabilities should not be refused access on any form of transport public or otherwise, as they are human beings that have the same rights to be treated with courtesy, dignity and respect as you or I. Just because someone many looks different to you or anyone else does not give anybody the right to discriminate, and bearing in mind they are a paying customer too, are entitled to a high standard of service, and a safe journey without incident. I have met a number of people over the years with Downs Syndrome, and I would never treat them with nothing less than 100%, courtesy, dignity, respect, and good manners!, as I would like to be treated myself.

I have a sister and a son with Down syndrome, both travel internationally between Africa, Europe and the USA freely, without discrimination and are most often the best behaved, most enjoyable passengers on the flight. If my Sister and Son could not travel, my family would be divided too, family holidays, reunions, weddings, and events would be entirely incomplete. They are essential members of our family and have to be with us just as my parents and my brother and my uncles and cousins do....

They are essential members of our family and have to be with us just as my parents and my brother and my uncles and cousins do. No-one external to the family has the right to decide they cannot travel or be with their family, that is abusive. If the family takes responsibility for their expenses and care along the way...who in the world is to complain or restrain. My son is extremely independent as are many people with down syndrome. Travel and family time enables and enriches everyone's lives, we should promote it.

It still blows my mind how the world is these days. Its 2013 for crying out loud. We are all Gods children and discrimination between us is uncalled for. I wish the world could grow up and stop acting like a group of mis-behaved 5 year olds

Rep of Ireland is not part of the UK, No appeal to any British governmental organisation is either helpful or appropriate. This is a matter for the Irish Government and its agencies. This is not generally news to most ;-)

Sorry I maybe really thick here but if she has a passport which would've been granted and possibly countersigned by her mother, why can't she leave the country. sorry if I'm being blonde but what reason is given as to why she can't leave the country? X

rachel, not read this story but just this week on my way home a woman had boarded my flight with the aid of attendants. she was elderly and handicapped. she obviously had a passport. but it was found under discussion that she could not take care of herself during the flight. the airline then decided that she could not fly under these conditions and took her off the plane and said they would contact a member of her family for her. just one reason why although you have a passport you may not be able to fly.

Fair enough. Im sure the article stated family where with her. It'd be interesting to know I'd she lives independently if that's the case.

Thank you Rachel for your support and post, which raises a few questions that should be clarified. Thank you Rachel for your support and post, which raises a few questions that should be clarified. Pauline's passport was recalled and then cancelled largely due to a failure of the passport office to either properly understand or abide by the law that governs them... that is... the Passports Act 2008. If they received a "report" as they claimed... that report should be made available to Pauline and those that advocate on her behalf so that we may know what it says and be able to address any questions it might have raised. I would say that either the report doesn't exist or it contains lies and the Passport office are probably too embarrassed to admit they acted on a frivolous or untrue report without first checking it's validity. Pauline has always travelled with family in the past and she would be accompanied by family on any trips she wishes to take in the future. She has flown transatlantic numerous times without problem and she enjoys the excitement and fun of travelling just as we all do. The question of living independently is one that cannot be addressed properly in a short post here because it is so relative. I would say though that in reality, most of us don't live entirely independently either as we all rely on someone for assistance now and then. For example, since my wife is in Ireland caring for Pauline, I had to rely on our adult daughter to show me how to do the laundry properly... embarrassing I know but true nevertheless :-). Most of us get a plumber or electrician in to repair things we don't know how to repair ourselves etc. Pauline can live relatively independently too but she needs assistance with certain tasks just like we all do. Pauline may need more assistance than most of us but that's okay... that's what family is for... to help each other and support each other and Pauline has that and I should also mention that Ireland has wonderful people working in Care organizations that provide assistance for people with disabilities. In addition to family care, Pauline has received excellent care and assistance down through the years from a wonderful organization with truly caring staff... Western Care Association in Ireland. The problem here is purely a bureuacratic error that needs to be fixed and I'm sure it will be... thanks to the support of each everyone that has signed this petition for Pauline. Thank you so much everyone!

hey thank you for the reply. In regards to the living independantly thing i meant it in sense of does she live on her own with carers or in a care type home which would tie in with the flying independantly. As in my eyes if she can live independantly then theres no reason why i can see that she can't fly on her own, but you answered that question for me as she flies with family. Which is fair enough. so basically they took the passport because of an unknown report filed and thats the reason...

"The Irish Passport Office took my passport and my rights away just over a year ago because they claim they got a "report" but it's a secret report and they won't show it to anyone - I'm not kidding! Please help!"

Surely by removing her passport and not allowing her to see the evidence by which they have done this is contrary to the Habus Corpus principle of law? she is effectively being detained without being told what her "Charge" is.
