We know that horses are very inteligent animals and by murdering one of their kind in front of the other was causing alot of stress to the ones still alive. We disagreed with the camps from the world wars (first and secound) where torture and killing of humans was practised. It is now time to do the sames when horses is concern! All the animals that we have as pests we should not kill for food!

A friend of mine who is now 75 years old was dining in a restaurant in France many years ago and the waiter brought him horse or maybe proposed Horse, the Gran Premio. He punched him and knocked him over he was so upset. We just could not understand it. Now this is coming to our horses here at home. We cannot let this happen to our horses no matter what. My friend will keep on punching.

Actually, horses are slaughtered differently than cows and pigs. For the meat to be legally sold as meat/food, the horses are electrocuted with a prod in the head, (anywhere on the head, and usually a few times). They are NOT killed, they are left alive, hoisted up by one of their back legs with a chain, then their slit right from their chest, all the way down their neck to under their chin. Then it takes approximately 10-15 minutes for them to bleed out, and die. Also, due to the few horse...

They are NOT killed, they are left alive, hoisted up by one of their back legs with a chain, then their slit right from their chest, all the way down their neck to under their chin. Then it takes approximately 10-15 minutes for them to bleed out, and die. Also, due to the few horse slaughter facilities, horses are shipped in CATTLE trailers which they don't properly fit in. They are shipped without food, water etc., for up to 72 hours. They often arrive beaten up, some already dead, or legs broken, to be abused more once they arrive. They are not docile, calm animals. They are usually b/w 1,200-1,700lbs. They are flight animals, terrified, and not easy to 'handle', such as cattle or pigs would be. Thus the abuse due to the people working at these facilities being afraid of a terrified horse, and hitting them etc. in an attempt to control them. Anyway, you should watch a couple of stories about 'Horse Slaughter'. Then you'll understand and LEARN what actually happens to these animals. It's not just meat is meat....You spend time in the company of these animals, you develop a relationship with one, trust and know the feeling of a horse trusting you. It's so much more than riding, at least for me. Horses are the one thing I love, respect, appreciate, feel happiest around. I grew up on a horse farm, I volunteer at a horse barn with 60 horses. They are pets, and try so hard to please us, and give us so much. So to be used until, (and often stolen), they are old, or a two yr. old with bad legs from being raced to young and often, that's not right. To me it would be the same as sending my dog, or cat to a slaughter house. Could you fathom that? Just try to actually understand what's involved in what a horse experiences when it is sent to slaughter. Thank you

The best way to help animals is to avoid eating them all - why eat some animals and not others - all animals deserve a decent, fear and pain free life.

Thanks for your kind words, Mitch. ALL animals do indeed deserve to live authentic lives, free of fear, pain, torture and slaughter. A vegan life is a life full of joy and knowing you are not contributing to suffering.

yes! don't eat ANY animals! and after seeing the picture with the momma horse forced to led her foal to slaughter i am putting every single human, bz, organization that is a torturer, murderer be it slaughter house, trappers, hunters, institutions or the powers that be all of them inside an Orb and let them all just self implode with their terrorist house of horrors within their own psyche

O.K. so some may say 'Well what's the difference between eating say- a pig a cow or a horse? That's a simplistic and frankly daft argument! Slaughtering and eating those animals is bad enough by the way- but we have a completely different and far more emotionally evolved and complex relationship with horses. They aren't even designed to be eaten! These creatures of grace, beauty and sensitivity must never be subjected to the brutality of transportation as 'meat'. We must always question how...

We must always question how appropriate or acceptable it is to eat what is placed before us- and this is a bridge too far. Are we becoming no better than the Chinese?

Sorry Haley, but I am afraid that I feel unable to join this cause. I eat pigs, sheep, cattle and various other beautiful animals, and have also eaten horse meat on the continent and feel that it would be hypocritical of me to subscribe.

A Big subject Jeff. Perhaps we all need to think more about what we eat. Having exquisite meat dishes presented to us somehow sanitises the process of 'how' it gets to our dinner plate and what the creature has suffered beforehand. European transportation methods are particularly inhuman alas. Could no more eat a 'horse' burger than eat halal.

Jeff, I respect your right to choose to eat horsemeat but if you actually read the cause in detail its actually says 'Your choice was taken away from you... That is why YOU need to sign'. We need and have the right to know what we are eating... end of, so that we can each make an informed decision. The cause also highlights the fact that we dont know for sure if our horsemeat is safe for human consumption as it may contain toxins.
I agree with Hayley generally on the cruelty issues,...

I agree with Hayley generally on the cruelty issues, however there is alot more to this cause than simply our own opinions on if eating horsemeat is right or wrong or the transportation methods used and I think anyone would agree we have a right to know what is in our food and if it is safe to eat
