It seems to me that Puerto Ricans do not vote in any U.S. election! Right, now Julia Torres wants that P.R.s be allowed to vote for a U.S. President. Surely Puerto ricans should be involved in State voting first before going for the "Big One!" If this means becoming a U.S.State then ask the Peurto Ricans if they want it! This is from a British point of view without an Axe to grind!
ahh, but you're wrong, they DO vote, just not for President.
I love puerto rico it's just beautiful a miracle god had to have created that place they were kind to me there and I never forgot that kindness they showed me I think you should have a picture of a sunset over El Murro and play la bamba or any thing you think will sell your cause mexican music like los lonely boys how far is heaven will help you get what you think that you want use no taxation without repressentation. I respect your island it is completely awsome.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy our island and our people!
Would have been nice if all military was able to vote, my son wasn't given the chance
Please share the story of your son...
Fuck. Them, they get welfare, methadone, they can't even speak. English, no education,in
It doesn't take much education to be prejudice against others, or to cuss others out, and the way you write, you don't seem to know much about the English language yourself.
You can't dress yourself' I am older I've been every where, 1st the U.S asked PR to become a state, they said. No thanks you fixed PR we want to be by our selfs !
I LOVE they become a state, but PR wants to be by themselves!
Good night and have a better tomorrow! FRANK n

The US is not prepared to take such a huge undertaking at the moment and are trying to figure it out. You really need to educate yourself.
Thank You Susanna, I am not trying to be rude to Denise but none of us have a right to put down a whole culture of people and its close to my heart because I grew up with a lot of Puerto Ricans and As a whole they are beautiful, hardworking people that make you feel like family no matter what race you are. I love all people unless they give me reasons not to. There is plenty of people that are uneducated, lazy, on welfare, on methadone doing drugs around their kids, Cooking Meth in their houses with their kids in their houses breathing in the poison and most of them around this part of the country are white. I'm originally from NY so I have been around all people and there is good and bad in all. People that are ignorant like her really get under my skin.

Denise G......Spanish is the language in PR although the majority of the people speak English it's not mandatory. Whatever help they get from the government they deserve it. After all, they shed their blood, limbs and loose their lives for your freedom and mine. Deal with it.
I guess the big problem we have is that we do not pay Federal Income Tax. And well "Taxation without representation is a two way street.) I lived in the States and voted twice for the President (Reagan) but ever since I moved to PR I haven't been able to; yet I understand the reasoning behind the decision. Imagine having to pay Hacienda (Humongous State Tax, Social Security and Federal Income tax.) Well I think there would be nothing left.:)
PR PAYS Fed Taxes.
God Bless America.
AND PUERTO RICO
Amerca is a melting pot of races
When Peurto Rico starts paying Federal taxes the same as Americans and becomes a state, then they can vote but not until then!
Thousands of puertorican have been paying federal taxes, including myself when I was working in the Ramey Air Force Base in Aguadilla, and it was mandatory for us to fill the the tax refund forms and submited to the IRS.
WHEN WORKED IN VIRGIN ISLAND I PAID FEDERALS TAXES,FOR YEARS
Sorry I can't, and won't sign this, as I feel that Puerto Rico isn't a state and as long as they don't want to become a state, then they lose the privilege to vote.
One other note: It has been my observation that most Pueto Ricans consider themselves Pueto Rican first, not Americans. Tell us they don't need our assistance, our educational needs, or medical and social help. Tell us they want to be independent. That's okay, really! You can't have it both ways though.
They voted to become a state last November 6th while we were voting for President. The U.S. Congress continues to ignore their plea to fully join our Union. Further, as a Puerto Rican, I consider myself an American first and that's why I also believe that our Constitution must represent every citizen equally.
I will vote for this when P.R. becomes a state and ratifies the referendum. The people of P.R. need to decide the statehood issue first as a show of good faith.
Not that I'm for statehood but, the people of Puerto Rico did decided that they wanted it last November 6th with a historic referendum vote in the affirmative. The problem is that, even so, they still cannot proceed without permission from Congress - who is stalling as we speak. Further, my petition here is simply advocating for the idea that EVERY American citizen - regardless of where they choose to live - should have the same equal voting rights. Thank you.
They allready did the referendum..and the people of Puerto Rico are in the White House and Congress delivering it now.
We got 11 million illegal Mexicans that voted in the last election, I don't really see why you can't vote. I even saw were people in Puertco Rico did vote in the last election. So what is the problem.
That is absolutely untrue. no illegal Americans, no matter their ethnicity voted illegally. That's just 'Republican Tea Party GOP propaganda." Jeez.
Dennis, I'm not sure about the illegals voting part, but I thank you for acknowledging the current unfair system whereby Puerto Rico is allowed to vote all the way up to the presidential primary but is then excluded from the final presidential vote every four years. Further, these American citizens are also not able to cast their ballots absentee for their own Commander in Chief, when deployed all over the world - as military - in harm's way. Clearly, voting reform is an urgent need. Thank you for commenting.
