Very seldom do I see Free pets listed. Almost all the dogs I have seen listed require a rehoming fee. This simple act helps to insure that the nefarious are kept at bay. Banning ads on Craigslist will do far more harm than good. Without Craigslist animals will be dumped by the side of the road, tossed into streams and lakes while bound and worse. Sorry, but cutting off your nose to spite your face is never a good idea, nor is your proposed ban of pet listings on craigslist

No animal should be passed off without properly screening the adopter, to list it free to the first person who shows up and says the right thing, is not acceptable.

And I don't know what page you are looking at, but there are loads listed free on Craigslist in the US, Kijiji in Canada, and Gumtree in the UK.

You need to look again. One dog I know was lucky he got a good home but others are used as bait dogs, etc.

I wish there were some decent laws to prevent cruelty, including the death sentence. Why should someone be allowed to live when they have no humanity and are incapable of doing nothing but cruelty and evil.

agree and that is how Jeffrey Dahmer started out killing animals first and then people.

It should be the sellers responsibility to do a background check. Seller should be fully responsible.

Unfortunately, some end-up to be used by vile individuals as bait for dog fights. NO ONE SHOULD ADVERTISE "FREE PET" ON CRAIGSLIST EVER! Pets are not for "sale" they're living beings who need love and protection.

This is so true. Graig's list needs to ban people posting these poor animals on their website.

My girlfriend and I adopted our cat Milo from a woman on Craigslist. She unfortunately just could not take care of him because of how allergic she was. Her loss was our gain. He's the coolest cat on the block! There are positive adoptions happening on the site, the site just needs to keep a better eye on the negative ones.

I already signed this one, but thanks. Yes Milo is a sweetheart.

Fucking sick. Animal abusers have a special place in hell. Craigslist, pet stores, breeders, other websites with pets for sale, slow your fucking roll, because you're a part of causing so much death, pain and senseless abuse among innocent creatures with souls and spirits who feel pain and happiness and emotions and bleed just as humans do.

Other than legitimate and ethical rescues there should be NO type of animal selling, giving away or bartered for on any website. You never know where they're going and most people cannot do the proper investigation of who wants to take them. Many are scumbags or brokers who just sell them to experimentation labs, dog fighters for bait, etc. This has to stop.

If it has a heartbeat it should not be bought, sold, or given free to a good home online. We and future generations are going to look back on this period of online animal sales, factory farming, etc., as one of ignorance and insanity. What is wrong with the human race? Our cruelty is not even a necessary evil, it is just cruelty for the sake of it. Businesses or organizations taking part need to be boycotted or sued into oblivion.

I really don't know why animals are allowed to be sold over the internet anyway. Anyone who sells their pet to some random stranger just to make money should never have pets to begin with!

It's bad enough them changing homes, without going to some cruel vile psychopath
