Guns are not the only problem with these tragic happinings. People should have a right to keep their guns for hunting and protection. The people who have no consciences will still get them. Mental illness is some of it too. Security needs to be tighter. Their are a lot of issues here besides just guns we need to look at.

All this is doing is making some people feel good. This will do NOTHING to curb the actual causes. And I still want to know why none of you so concerned folks are not questioning WHY it took over 15 minutes for the very first officer to arrive at the school when the Newton police dept. is only a few miles away from the school. How many lives would have been saved had an armed officer or security guard been on duty at this school? How many lives would have been saved had an officer arrived...

How many lives would have been saved had an officer arrived within 3-5 minutes instead of OVER 15! My area schools all have armed LEO resources on campus. You need to be petitioning demanding improved security, demand better response time and better monitoring of mental health patients.

One additional request from the moderator (that's me). This is a forum for open dialogue including differing views. That said, you can emphasize your support for the Second Amendment (which Sandy Hook Promise also supports) without making threats of any kind. That'll get you tossed off this page. Let's each of us remember why this page exists, and behave in a way that honors those who lost their lives.

There are several pieces to the puzzle of violence. Sorry, but guns are definetly one of them, along with violent media , video games, etc. The mentally ill easily become confused with hypocritical values from society i.e. condoning violence if it makes certain people money, but otherwise speaking against it. This will keep happening until we as a people GET it. Say what you want. all of you Christians, look to Jesus who was completely non-violent against others. He didn't raise a hand or even say a word against his captors.

I don't believe that the people that have guns legally are the problem. It is the person who has mental issues and don't get the help they need. I know of some people that could have been helped, but were rejected for one reason or another. So some of the blame goes to the healthcare providers and doctors who let things go on too long. Why are we taking it out of the innocent person who have collection of guns and are properly stored and locked away. They are not the cause. Also making their names public is not right.
