The answer is not, never has been, and never will be owning and using weapons...weapons which were designed to kill people. There is no excuse for the slaughter of loving and innocent children in their grade 1 classroom. A person's "right" to own guns, or their "interpretation" of the 2nd amendment, DOES NOT trump a child's right to life and safety. Guns, guns and more guns does not promote safety for anyone. More guns leads to more senseless killings by guns. This is an indisputable fact....

Look into your hearts where the goodness and love is, and choose that rather than the other. It's that simple. We all know what's right. There are no excuses for the situation we find ourselves in, surrounded by guns, violence and worsening mental health. Put down your weapons. This is not okay. This is not okay at all.

I signed it because of this "the mission of Sandy Hook Promise is to work to identify and implement holistic, common sense solutions that will make our community and our country safer from similar acts of violence through education, outreach and grass-roots discussion." I'm hoping - perhaps futiley - that common sense dictates that banning guns is not the solution. This is so much more a mental health issue. No sane person would commit these kinds of acts. I'm hoping - perhaps futiley - that common sense dictates that banning guns is not the solution. This is so much more a mental health issue. No sane person would commit these kinds of acts. Mandatory monitoring of mental health medications would be a better way to approach this most controversial problem. Banning guns is a knee-jerk reaction to any act of violence and does not truly solve the problem. However, nowhere in the promise does it mention the banning of guns and I can agree with the promise as it stands. My heart aches for the survivors and their families. I sincerely hope that time eases their pain and the emptiness they feel.

Return to Love.
Why let this event be a tragedy? or a reason to turn against one another. Let it be reason to Love one another more. A reason to unit in love, for love, with love and re-assess the believes, teachings and ways that sets the stage for such events to unfold. There is always a bigger picture.
Let this event inspire change.
Let these events inspire everyone to re-assess the practices of society as a whole and explore what can be done different, what needs to be let go of.

Violence breads violence, Love breads Love.

This wanton violence in this country must be stopped. A simple suggestion that costs nothing is for the media to not print or broadcast the name of the perpetrator so as to deny these individuals their 15 minutes of fame or infamy that seems to be a strong motivator for these misguided individuals. This method has been successfully used in the UK where it was the law of the land.

The other thing which interests me about this case in particular is why the shooter was not placed in a residential treatment center? This excellent care and treatment for patients with his type of problems is extremely expensive but well within the reach of this troubled family. If the shooter who was a frustrated and lonely individual had been placed in one on these institutions (many very good ones are located in that part of CT) he would have been cared for and confined, so this shooting probably would not have happened in the first place and even his gun loving mother would probably be still alive.

If he had had the benefit of residential treatment and learned the social skills he needed to survive in the community he would have been much better adjusted and might not have had the anger that drove him to commit the crime in the first place. I work with troubled families for a living and have often convinced them that this is the best alternative for their loved one.

Anyone can get their hands on a gun or semiautomatic weapon today. There are few rules and restrictions. Guns do kill, and too often they kill innocent children and adults. I am thankful that our President is going to make it more difficult.
