Marcus Mosiah Garvey, a leader in the human rights movement for people of African descent, was unjustly convicted for crimes he did not commit. Congress should correct this historic injustice and exonerate Marcus Garvey. Would you like to bet there are more, convicted and sentenced, no one knows about, as it never made the news. Human rights! That is something our land America should help defend, America stands for freedom or not! How many military and other Americans, have died for rights....

Hell, no, this is not a legitimate petition. Just because someone wants a campaign for a cause doesn't mean it's a legitimate cause. Don't be mindless sheep, check out the case first. I just did and found the following;.

"Garvey blamed Jewish jurors and a Jewish federal judge, Julian Mack, for his conviction.[23] He felt they had been biased because of their political objections to his meeting with the acting imperial wizard of the Ku Klux Klan the year before."

There were many great civil rights leaders. A few, as we know now, were frauds, such as Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson, who have both been involved in racist activities since the days of the civil rights movement. Garvey isn't guilty because he was Black and he wasn't innocent because he was Black.

From Wiki: "Professor Judith Stein has stated, "his politics were on trial."[26] Garvey's sentence was eventually commuted by President Calvin Coolidge. Upon his release in November 1927, Garvey was deported via New Orleans to Jamaica, where a large crowd met him at Orrett's Wharf in Kingston. Though the popularity of the UNIA diminished greatly following Garvey's expulsion, he nevertheless remained committed to his political ideals.[9]".

His sentence was already Commuted. What more can be done? History shouldn't re-write itself...for how else will we learn from our mistakes? Having said that, I believe this mans politics, a radical even by todays standards, is what put him in the cross hairs of the Federal Government in the first place. Just like present day. Nothing needs to be done here... History has laid out it's story and it's up to us to decide and view it within it's full context.

Congress has much more important things to attend too then white washing this man history. He passed away before WW2... and is now relegated to the history books for those who wish to look it up and learn about him..which is how it should be. Congress? Get back to work!
