He went on to say that all animals are "fruit of the creative action of the Holy Spirit and merit respect" and that they are "as near to God as men are."The Holy Father reminded people that all living beings, including animals, came into being because of the "breath" of God. Animals possess the divine spark of life – the living quality that is the soul – and they are not inferior beings, as factory farmers, fur farmers, and others who exploit animals for profit would have us believe. *Pope Benedict was echoing official church teachings, as laid out in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which states clearly that "Animals are God’s creatures. He surrounds them with his providential care. By their mere existence they bless him and give him glory. Thus men owe them kindness.

I didn't know that the Holy Father JPII had so stated. Never having pets as a child I came to that awareness later in life. Being of the 'breath' of God explains why they can communicate so well with us, and are companions, rescuers and gift. Horrified that Switzerland allows this.

I totally agree, why are they doing this? Are they easy to farm? So they grow quickly? What are the options of something else to eat in the area? I would think that since dogs and cats are carnivores, they are expensive to feed. If one looks at cost of farming dogs and farming goats or sheep, it must be cheaper to farm goats and sheep. Sometimes, you just gotta hit them in the pocket book. I just don't know if these petitions do anything. There really needs to do something.

É triste e desolador, a morte, a desgraça cometida pelo ser Humano contra um ser que não se pode defender, sim, vergonha, sentir vergonha, uma vergonha que me aperta as entranhas.
