Cops should face the same consequences as if they shot a human. Some of them are just big fat bullies with guns and they know they can kill our family dogs with a slap on the wrist, if even that much. And don't even get me started on what would happen in one of us shot 'their' dog. Then all of a sudden it's a "partner"! And when they leave their "partner" to die in a 120 degree cruiser, then all of a sudden it's an "accident". What gives?

At very least, cops should face the same consequences as anyone does who shoots a police dog.

Totally agree with you! Some of the policemen shouldn´t be allowed to carry a gun at all. I´m only happy that policemen in our country are not that armed, because I can imagine the catastrophies afterwards.

And why is lethal force being used if these situations anyway when they have TASARS now for that purpose... to use on both animals AND people. Police are never held accountable for the abuse they inflict on innocent victims, an unconscionable abuse of their oath & firearms. They've just become armed & dangerous BULLIES and we need to have REAL, independent oversight monitoring & prosecuting them for violations!!!

Again, who is this petition actually going to? Who is the decision maker that will receive this? If you want to petition the President or Congress you either need to : 1) set up a We The People petition, in which if you get 100,000 sigs (or whatever the minimum is, THEN the petition will then be forwarded to the appropriate parties in government. Otherwise, unless this petition already has been directed to a specific congressperson -simply addressed as it is, will not get it to any decision...

I would support YOU should you start a WE THE PEOPLE petition, i will look out for one! The more the better! Hugs Jayne

hi Jayne.. Not suggesting you havent had success. Just asking if you were able to get the governments attention or legal change. Cause, in the big picture the most efficient way to help the most animals in a given time frame would be to have laws changed.. I probably wont be able to start a we the people petition on this anytime soon. Hugs, Grace

It is long overdue for Federal Legislation to require all law enforcement personnel be properly trained in handing family pets. All of these cases are so heartbreaking and when many of them are viewed on the police dash camera it proves that these thugs with badges are shooting when there is no need what so ever. RIP Cammie in La Grange Missouri. I will never forget you or the look on your face when your life was taken so cruelly.

I absolutely agree. We're seeing the indiscriminate murder of dogs all over the country lately. Perhaps it isn't a new phenomenon; perhaps it's just that the internet is making us more aware of this unfair treatment of dogs by police officers. I believe that, not only should the personnel be trained; but I think they should receive psychological testing before they're ever admitted to the police force, because there's something wrong when someone with a badge and a gun, is so quick to...

I believe that, not only should the personnel be trained; but I think they should receive psychological testing before they're ever admitted to the police force, because there's something wrong when someone with a badge and a gun, is so quick to shoot a dog, no matter what the situation. Even when the dog is tied and too far away to attack; even when the dog is facing away from the officer; even when the dog is obviously friendly and wagging his tail... I don't know if it's just abuse of power, a need to prove strength (no better than a bullfighter); or if it's sheer cowardice, and an attempt to *get the dog before the dog gets me.* I think, if most cities have K9 specialists, it would be a great idea to have every single officer spend at least a minimum amount of training with one of these officers, just to counteract any prejudicial feelings and fears that may be latent in the officer's psyche.

They also come in, at times, take the family pets, have them put to death, and bill the owners for the cost...usually without cause...they are so afraid of dog bites that they develop the feeling that all dogs are going to bite or destroy them. I wonder if they are trained like the military..

To all Law enforcement officers- DON'T SHOOT or Kill animals especially family pets! The dogs may have done nothing wrong, it may be how the owners treat and/or raise their pets. ANIMALS are like children, you wouldn't shoot someone's child, WOULD YOU?

Well actually, YES, they would. They murdered Aiyana Jones in cold blood. With a video crew there! And then lied about it. Detroit pigs.

Although most police officers are responsible, and decent people, some are bullies, full of themselves and macho idiots. These cops must stop killing innocent pets!

You've got that backwards. 99% of "Law Enforcement" give the REST a bad name. The stench is overwhelming. And it smells like pig.

This sadly seems to be a big out of control issue now & cops now need to be trained in how to handle situations with peoples pets so all the unnecessary killings stop! I am sure there's other options other then shooting our pets & don't get why everything is about killing! Just because you have a badge & gun doesn't give you the right to shot our pets & this should be considered animal abuse when they do! If a dog starts barking or reacting a certain way it's just doing it's job by...

If a dog starts barking or reacting a certain way it's just doing it's job by protecting it's family & property & again doesn't give anybody a right to kill them!

Law enforcement is supposed to protect the defenseless & innocent! Animals fall under that besides them being voiceless.Animal abuse & muder is against society & the law so why do gun happy/animal hating cops get away with it? And we are supposed to trust cops and the law?

Who are they to just kill our animals...if the animals is attacking or going after them they don't even need to kill it then a shot in the air will scare it away. They need to stop and think how they would feel if it was there animal. Chino ans Ivy are good examples of the abuse...let stop them now before they kill a our pets and maybe even a child that may be around them.
