Many reforms have been thrown around since December 14 - as well they should be. All this one does (I think) is revive a law that was sunsetted in 2004. I can't see what meaningful opposition there could be to it. More controversial - and yet needed - is a law banning sales of clips holding more than 12 bullets (I would say 6). Contrary to what the NRA recently claimed (or so I'm told), hunters do not need 30-bullet clips.

I am against assault weapons such as military assigned on the streets of the U.S. they should be banned along with as assortment of pistols. My family have been hunters all their lives and it is a sport as well as food on the table. Just remember it's not the gun that kills, it is the person behind the gun that pulls the trigger. I'm for code pink but I feel it's the unstable person who should be banned from purchasing the weapon and the black market that sells them illegally should be...

The Brady gun law has done nothing to help stop these crimes. Remember anyone can make a weapon out of a common everyday utensil so when you say all weapons should be banned stop and think of something used everyday that can still kill. God Bless every one and Merry Christmas.

The slaughter of innocents is unforgivable, whether the innocent is six or sixty. I believe all military style weapons need to be banned from ownership by the general public. I would go so far as to say the majority of handguns should be banned also!

And now as I return to my hometown of Rochester, an ex-murderer killed firemen with military grade weapons as they responded to a fire he set as a trap. What a sad state of affairs for Senator Reid to cower to the NRA, when he has been a champion of so many good things. I hold him and all our elected leaders responsible for this carnage. Political inaction enables the actions of these horrible human beings, therefore blood is on their hands too. How many more have to die?

It is with great sorrow that I understand your position.... whilst I should point out that a) most of America is a wonderful place to visit and b) the American people are VERY hospitable and would be more than likely very concerned for your safety here as a visitor.

Where is the social morality of all countries?? Yes selling guns is a big buisness, BUT Money is not everything. This nut-job that is in charge of the NRA is just as stupid as one can get. It should be all guns that should be banned. A hand gun can kill our children just as easily as a automatic one does. The president of the NRA is trying to shift the blame and attention from them and over to the video games and film industry. Ths guy is a coward and is blind to his responsability to...

Or is the only way for them to open thier eyes is if a number of their children are killed.

I'm with the Constitution on this one. Every American has the right to own a musket, powder and loads. And that's it.

I am sorry, but i have to take issue. How can you protect yourself from some nut with a Stinger missile unless you have one, too? Your extremist views cannot address such simple logic now can they?

Jim Calkins: Are you suggesting that Stingers are covered by the 2nd Amendment as well? And you say that Joseph W. Grant (the poster you responded to) is extremist???

The Chief of the US -NRA said, on world-wide TV that "The only way to stop a 'bad-guy' with a gun is with a 'good-guy' with a gun".........How about NEITHER HAVING A GUN?

Armed guards do not deter violence. It didn't work at Columbine. It didn't save JFK or RFK. It didn't stop Reagan from getting shot or Bradley. Armed police officers get shot and killed everyday. NO MORE GUNS!
