My word, this is sooooooooo overdue..I congratulate Ruth on her endless work for our children...Thankyou.
unseen as a child i was not treated for36yrs what a mess, honesty is best
It will assist so many teenagers in the region to have facilities designed especially to meet their specific needs.
3hrs is that some sort of record....
Don't tell kids they will grow out of mental health when they are older so we need more mental health place's
Our young people need help not words stop talking and work towards better mental health outcomes
As someone who has worked in the mental health system in the USA I agree you are right. Children need different treatment than adults. Outcomes can change a persons life as a child. Your government seems to really be crazy. Children in crisis probably have sexual abuse issues. Almost all of the adults whith chronic mental illness can trace it back to sexual abuse cas a child. The more severe and the longer the time of the abuse the more problems as an adult.
Mental health should be an absolute priority for our government and these facilities should be available in every state.
They have aged care facilities why not facilities for the young as they are our tomorrow.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pls sign this.... I think our children are worthy , all 3 of my daughters suffer fro a past abusive relationship and have PTSD... it can at times be very hard... people may look ok on the outside.. mental health gos by unnoticed far too often <3 <3 <3 the more services avail the less teenage suicides we will have.
It's time to tackle our hidden crisis. every other week, it seems, we hear about the next looming national health crisis confronting Australia- be it obesity, diabetes, alcohol abuse, cancer or heart dissease. Well, it turns out we are facing a health crisis of enormouse proportions. And it's not looming- it's already here affecting thousands if not millions of lives daily. It's the mental health crisis and it's on a scale so big that it actually encompasses all those other issues. Don't...
Don't just contact your State Member contact your Federal Members and make this an election issues. I lost a very lovely young man Quentin in Cairns when he took his own life - there was little support and honestly the hospital was under resourced to deal with his ongoing bouts of depression and dismissed it as merely as some kind of character flaw or failing. It's time to bring FNQ issues out of the shadows. Out of sight and out of mind will not do.
Until suicide has touched your life its hard to imagine the long term and far reaching affect it has. Facilities for prevention can never be overestimated.
In my career I have worked with mental health patients. I am surprised to hear there is not a unit for teenagers in an area of Australia. It is an area that should not be forgotten, these teens are our future.
