When I was a supervisor of City Poughkeepsie 911 Center I went to Albany for a NYSPIN meeting and we took one day to go over to the law makers and request that we be allowed to keep a bill that gave 911 centers a certain amount of money split between all of us.

We explained that currently and still true to this day the money that we pay for surchanges on our cell phones goes into the NY State Police GENERAL FUND, they do not have to and have never had to spend it on the 911 system. When I was there NYS was just switching all 911 calls in our area to our County 911 center even those in the City. NYS had never kept up with their equipment and were not Phaze 2 complaint. They had switched several calls to me that we no where near my City, because they were not trained properly and wanted to ditch calls off ASAP.
