I don't think taking guns away from good people trying only to protect themselves and their families is the answer! we do need to think about more extensive background checks and a mental compatency test for people wishing to purchase a gun of any kind, or even a yearly test to determine if you are capable of still owning the gun that you have purchased.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.
With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.
During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!

SWITZERLAND ISSUES EVERY HOUSEHOLD A GUN!
SWITZERLAND'S GOVERNMENT TRAINS EVERY ADULT THEY ISSUE A RIFLE.
SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!
IT'S A NO BRAINER!
DON'T LET OUR GOVERNMENT WASTE MILLIONS OF OUR TAX DOLLARS IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE ALL LAW ABIDING CITIZENS AN EASY TARGET.
Spread the word everywhere you can that you are a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment!

It's time to speak loud before they try to silence and disarm us.
You're not imagining it, history shows that governments always manipulate tragedies to attempt to disarm the people.

Are you for real Antoinette? What good would guns have been in those cases? Individuals can wipe out armies? Scenario...Mr Jacobsen the Jewish watch mender is working in his shop in Munich in 1937 when six German soldiers enter his shop to arrest him. Mr Jacobson shoots all six Germans dead?.............likely?........or is that what you would have done Antoinette? If confronted with an armed gunman, it is YOU who will most likely end up dead, not him.

Look at the UK. Look, listen and learn. No gun ownership here, except for farmers, and less than 40 illegal gun deaths a year, compared to thousands in America. You are 50 times more likely to be shot in America than in England or Wales.........and you think owning guns make you safer? Morons.

There isn't much more that can be said, thought or prayed that anyone of us hasn't already... today's military grade assault class rifles are weapons of mass destruction. They are available to non-military person's for 'recreational' purposes (for which the military does not use them as they combat instruments for inflicting death).

They are accessible by our children from within their own homes as a result of 'freedoms' granted to their parents by the Bill of Rights, and we have witnessed our children use them in a manner they experience (train for) in ultra-violent video simulation games with horrifying and catastrophic results.

When does a nation of the people, with a government of the people, dedicated to the preservation of the commonwealth and welfare of the people extract from out of its midst those things which threaten the very life of the community? It does so when its very survival is threatened. If this were a virus, we would move to exterminate it without hesitation. Let this be understood as the deadly virus that it is, and remove without hesitation all military grade assault class weapons from among the common citizenry.

And if there be an outcry from those that would resist and rally themselves to 'quote and defend' their Constitutional 'right to bare arms', then by God, let them join the militia as it was intended and receive their registered military grade assault rifles and all the attendant responsibilites to serve and protect, and the weighty consequences should they ever slack in their duty and be found to the cause of such a weapon once again falling into the hands of a child.

Are you people ignorant or just stupid that gun didnt kill anybody the person behind the gun did the killing. Criminals dont follow the laws. They will still carry guns illagally just like they do now. Dont get me wrong, my hart was riped out after sandy hook, along with millions of other americans, but as long as evil carrys a .45 so will i. Dont let "big government" take away our right to defend ourselves when no one else will.

Careful with that .45, Kristy. Statistically you're more likely to accidently shoot yourself or an innocent bystander with it than to shoot a bad guy.

If you pay attention, I do believe that the guns were legally bought by a family member. He did not purchase those guns himself. Therefore you can not blame gun laws for stolen guns. As a matter of fact you can't blame knife salesman for stabbings, shoe makers for stompings, etc... If someone decides to go haywire and cause a tragedy they will find a way. Same way drugs are illegal but how many drugs are out there and how many are made out of household medications. You can't fix crazy or else the world would be perfect.

When I first heard the news about all the children and people that were killed in New Town, Connecticut I was shocked and in tears. One of the statements that the officials made was that there is not enough money to have policemen in every school, that they cannot have weapon detectors in every school because it is to expensive. You see, what is impossible for men is possible for God because He is able to change all this turmoil that our nation is in. In our own strength we cannot do it....

In our own strength we cannot do it. It has to be done supernaturally. When we were young they taught us the fear of God in the schools. We would pledge allegiance to the flag and place the day in Jesus hands and these things did not happen. As soon as men took Jesus out of the schools the evilness started to take place. When Jesus is not the center of a nation, then someone else is. What has happened is that we are trying to imitate other nations ways, and they come here and dictate us how to manage our nation which as you can see they always end up in violence. I think it's time that we as Christians stand up and make a statement to our government and make them aware that without Jesus in the schools, even worse things will happen. We were a nation that were founded in Christianity not in killings. Let's go back to our old ways where Jesus was the center of our nation.

The states could put guards or police in schools but they would reather spend the money on collage football. I belive God needs to be back in schools but our goverments need to spend the money to protect our schools.

I thought in light of what happened in Newtown, Conneticut, there would be more American's on board in relation to this petition. Though it's great to see so many care enough to sign a condolence card, it's sad to see not many willing to sign up for reforms that would prevent this from happening again in your country. I'm not saying it would completely abolish the violence of gun use. But to care enough to try, is it really to much to ask?
