Being a retired Vet, I know that the government can provide a couple of guards at each school. Even utilize the reservists who do two weeks a year for training. Could use one week for training, and another for protecting.

as a parent that has lost a child , my heart breaks for the parents of those precious babies, but banning guns will not solve this problem, guns do not kill people , people kill people, assult weapons have no place in the public's hand's, but anyone that has obtained a weapon through the legal system should be able to protect their person and homes.

We need to enable people to defend themselves against threats until law enforcement officials can arrive. Pray for the victims but lets stop more from becoming harmed. Train defense teams wherever we have soft targets to neutralize immediate threats until law enforcement can arrive on scene.

This is perhaps the stupidest thing I have read in a while. With education budgets being slashed right and left, teachers losing their jobs, children being placed in classrooms of upwards of 30-40 students, specials being cut (art, gym, music), there is no money for anything like this. To do what this absurd petition asks would cost a SMALL community over a half million dollars a year. To do what this absurd petition asks would cost a SMALL community over a half million dollars a year. I work in an inner city school, we work closely with the local police officers but there are no "armed guards". And we DO have metal detectors. We have since the Columbine shootings. Ya know what? No one uses them because they are useless. The CT shooter shot his way into the school no metal detector would have stopped him. I understand people are concerned, but wasting tax dollars on "feel good" measures will only cripple our educational system further.
