Shame, Shame, Shame Channel 3. I live in Shreveport, I thought she had moved out of state, had no idea where she was. I will no longer look at your news. God made us and you cant undue it. I am proud to be what He made me. I hope you do the right thing before God take all of your jobs. You don't mess with God children, he see, hear everything you do. If you are one of Gods children, do what is right.

Take a look at my hair. It's even shorter now. Its not just whites that stare but my own Black people who stare at my hair as if something is wrong with me. The day I started losing my almost waist length hair, I freaked out. I spent a lot of money. I tried weave, wigs, vitamins, you name it. So I did the big chop; afterwards I had all the withdrawals of feeling I wasn't pretty anymore. ( Black Men were the worst in supporting my feelings) Too many of us are just as fake as the weave...

( Black Men were the worst in supporting my feelings) Too many of us are just as fake as the weave we wear. Oh I love you sistha's who walk around me flinging your WEAVE in my face... I mean please, REALLY! Black Women have been brainwashed "still" into believing we are not beautiful unless we have straight or long straight hair. That is such nonsense! Here in Atlanta there are as many women who are natural, as there are women who straighten, perm/relax, wear weaves, and wear wigs. Being natural is the most freeing thing that a Black Woman can ever do. So shame on you all who make your comments about women who choose to go natural for whatever their reason.

Crazy; I wondered what happened to her in Austin. Was refreshing to see her deliver the weather. According to this article, she was fired for HER HAIR. http://www.statesman.com/news/business/kxan-accused-of-racial-discrimination-libel-in-2-s/nRn2N/

Here's the exchange:
A black female meteorologist has been fired from the ABC affiliate in Shreveport, La., she told Journal-isms, because she responded to a racial remark posted by a viewer on the station’s Facebook page.

A black female meteorologist has been fired from the ABC affiliate in Shreveport, La., she told Journal-isms, because she responded to a racial remark posted by a viewer on the station’s Facebook page.

KTBS-TV’s action against Rhonda Lee followed a previous response by Lee to a viewer who questioned whether she should wear her short Afro, suggesting she put on a wig or grow more hair…

On Oct. 1, a viewer identified as Emmitt Vascocu wrote, “the black lady that does the news is a very nice lady.the only thing is she needs to wear a wig or grow some more hair. im not sure if she is a cancer patient. but still its not something myself that i think looks good on tv. what about letting someone a male have waist long hair do the news.what about that (cq).”

Lee replied the same day, “Hello Emmitt–I am the ‘black lady’ to which you are referring. I’m sorry you don’t like my ethnic hair. And no I don’t have cancer. I’m a non-smoking, 5’3, 121 lbs, 25 mile a week running, 37.5 year old woman, and I’m in perfectly healthy physical condition.

“I am very proud of my African-American ancestry which includes my hair. For your edification: traditionally our hair doesn’t grow downward. It grows upward. Many Black women use strong straightening agents in order to achieve a more European grade of hair and that is their choice. However in my case I don’t find it necessary. I’m very proud of who I am and the standard of beauty I display. Women come in all shapes, sizes, nationalities, and levels of beauty. Showing little girls that being comfortable in the skin and HAIR God gave me is my contribution to society. Little girls (and boys for that matter) need to see that what you look like isn’t a reason to not achieve their goals.

“Conforming to one standard isn’t what being American is about and I hope you can embrace that.

“Thank you for your comment and have a great weekend and thank for watching.”

Vascocu replied that Lee was right to be proud of who she is and that he is not a racist, but “. . . this world has . . . certain standerd (cq). if youve come from a world of being poor are you going to dress in rags?. . .”
Rhonda Lee is a 25-year veteran of the news industry.

MATRIX MENTALITY (only one "standard" of "beauty").
Judging from the FIGHT the Sister is displaying, I don't think she's going to be changing her appearance to "conform."
It's almost futile to respond to people who are so ignorant in their programming; nonetheless, to affect change it takes standing up to injustice and I applaud and support Ms. Lee for the sacrifice she's making, so that in the future people are considered for the content of character and depth of ability; NOT hair texture or skin color.

I am amazed that Shreveport's TV station would pay so much attention to someone who sither cannot spell or does not know how to use spellcheck. I am offended 'they' chose to fire Ms.Lee. Of course it was really for no other reasons than she was a woman & a black one at that. I'm sure that station is owned by some very old white MEN. I don't live in La. right now but if that's the kinds of goings on down there, I don't want to. And if I'm caught there, I won't watch that station.

IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE KTBS WOULD DO SUCH A DASTERLY THING. SHAME ON YOU KTBS.

She is a beautiful young woman that directly educated the public in a very eloquent manner. And she was fired for this? I had no idea that an African Americans hair grew upward and found it enlightening and informative. Whose business is it that she chooses to keep her hair short?

According to this article, Rhonda Lee was not fired for her comment about her appearance (which was 'liked' by the station on facebook) but for another comment responding to accusations of racism from a viewer:

It's still an issue of injustice, but apparently a different one than described in this petition.

Please pass this message on to Rhonda Lee, in case I can not find her on Facebook...

Look at this as a blessing Rhonda Lee, now you can start you own TV Show. Your current fans will watch it, as well as people who did not know of you before this happened. When one bad door closes (like the bad company you worked for), a huge blessing and opportunity from God opens up for you.
Go for it!

Also sue them. Their so call policy was not in writing...
I think that you do not need their sorry...

I am only signing this petition to show support that people should not be treated like this from corporate america (TV stations, etc. they are all the same).

I never knew the length of hair affected the weather! For all those young girls out there and everyone else, the outer you is only a small portion of who you are and who you should strive to be. Your true beauty is what and who you are inside and what you do with those gifts.
