if there wasnt so many illegal people living in the houses there would be more available .. no one should be made to move out of the house they have had for years .. this will cause no end of trouble .. council rents are being raised to the same as private rented housing so a family can private rent Wendy ..

If someone paid for a 3/4 bedroom house when they had a young family and needed the room why should they be forced to move out once the kids are away - my mother still lives in a 3/4 bedroomed house which was lucky as both my brother and I have had to move back in due to high rental charges and high house prices which are way way way beyond our means as we have had low paid jobs all our lives and been unable to save enough to afford housing down here in Devon.

I had a live-in job for 25 years, my brother also lived in where he worked, still had expenses to meet, and although I tried saving the costs down here are ridiculous if you are on minimum wage as we both are - or not much above it. Why should folk be forced to move out of somewhere that they have scrimped and saved all their lives to own just because it has more bedrooms than they need now? How do families get together if there are no spare rooms for visitors? Oh, I see, let's end family life or force people to pay extortionate hotel fees if they want to see family...

If a single person is in a 3 bedroom house and is willing to downsize to smaller council accommodation that is ok, that happens now, but if you have to claim benifits through no fault of your own why should you be charged for the `privelige`? I for one are not on benefits at this time but nothing to say in the future I wont be, does this mean I have to rent out my spare bedroom to a stranger and not be able to have my grandchildren stay when they want... it is taking away our liberty to do as we wish IN OUR OWN HOMES! A step too far me thinks!

DC has alot to answer for the way the country is at the moment. He has bright ideas, which are often not thought out properly. This vacant bedroom tax is so wrong. I have worked hard for what I have got and now this stupid goverment wants to tax us again. What does he want us all the live in one bed houses when out children have left home? When will this goverment stop and think.

Once this government is done it will take two generations to right it again, I promise u, look what happened to mining and steel towns, intergenerational unemployment to once hard working communities. With the changes to housing benefit, they will destroy the fabric of our society, even for those who work and live in social housing. We have such short memories. I said to everyone at the last election, DO NOT Trust these Tories, better the devil you know than the Tories ... by the way, I have never claimed a single benefit all my life but am appaled by what this government are doing to our society!

Caring Britian has never been the case with our government, as its politicians continue to fleece the general public, a public that funds their life style, and funds the job they have, via taxes. And whilst the MP sits in his Park Lane 2-3 bedroom flat, with an all year round, all expenses paid existance, 365 days a year heating and lighting paid for, not just a winter allowance, what do these people care.

Let us see millions upon millions upon millions saved by scraping the expenses jolly free for all.

It is a cruel evil rule....the only reason we have a housing shortage is because they will not build not properties for social housing. They have thousands of homes boarded up.... they could refurb those properties which will give people employment, help the economy and bring in revenue.........This problem was started in the 80's by Thatcher.. and the son of Dracula pushes the poor onto the streets..........just plain and simple......that's what this government is..... simple...

The reason we have a housing shortage today Diane, is that Maggie Thatcher sold off 23% of housing stock to win the 1979 General Election. Tenants bought, and property speculators cleaned up. If thye tory's want to go ahead and charge a bedroom tax they should too should pay levys on the size of THEIR properties ASWELL as paying levey's on trheir SECOND HOMES.
