I agree with bedroom tax if you have more rooms that you don't need and you don't pay your own rent then yes you should pay for your extra rooms people on benefits get so much its about time they payed something back or if they don't wont to pay for the extra rooms then move them out to somewhere that is the write size

You had a nice big house to bring up your family - why can't you step aside to give another family a better life. I own my house and will be happy to sell it and find something smaller when mine have flown the nest as will most of my neighbours why should having a council house make a difference

Would you be so happy 2 give it up under these conditions......Apparently on January 1st 2014 the UK will open its door 2 unlimited numbers of people from Romania & Bulgaria, 29million people will be entitled to come here.....not just 2 work, but 2 take advantage of our benefits, housing, schools & health services, almost half of them live in poverty, so where would u go if u were them, that's right here in good old britain, i mean as if we don't already have enuf here already, don't get me...

I agree with the policy there are families living in over crowded council houses as the bigger homes are already lived in by people whose children have grown up and moved out, it is not your property it belongs to the council they maintain it and subsidise the rent everyone has the right to buy at the end of the day.I myself liked my council house enough to buy it when I was only workimg 16hours a week and lived alone with my daughter its not that hard.

PS: Social housing is not owned by the council or goverment, get your facts right......In the United Kingdom, housing associations are private, non-profit making organisations that provide low-cost "social housing" for people in need of a home. Any trading surplus is used to maintain existing housing and to help finance new homes. Although independent they are regulated by the state and commonly receive public funding. They are now the United Kingdom's major providers of new housing for rent, while many also run shared ownership schemes to help those who cannot afford to buy a home outright.

Housing associations provide a wide range of housing, some managing large estates of housing for families, while the smallest may perhaps manage a single scheme of housing for older people. Much of the supported accommodation in the UK is also provided by Housing Associations, with specialist projects for people with mental health or learning disabilities, with substance misuse problems (alcohol or illegal drugs), the formerly homeless, young people, ex-offenders and women fleeing domestic violence.

It has been suggested that following the General Election you accepted a bribe from David Cameron to gain a semblance of political power. The claim is that the historical differences between the Conservatives and Liberals would make it utterly impossible for any accord between the two parties. The claim goes on to elaborate on these differences, going back to the Parliaments of Charles II, when the parliamentary parties began to polarise into the Whigs and Tories. I would have to agree on the historical aspects and ask; did you, indeed, accept a bribe from David Cameron? It is suggested that the most blatant act of political corruption took place following the General Election. For my own part, your deal with David Cameron has demonstrated that my vote for the Liberal Democrats was, in fact, a vote for the Conservatives. I believe that you have betrayed a once great political party and shown yourself to be a venal political opportunist.
Although I do not expect a reply, I would advise you that a failure to reply will be taken as an admission of the above claims and will be published. On the other hand, in fairness, any reply which explains your reasoning for joining forces with the Conservatives will be reported upon as well.
Sent to Nick Clegg via his website on 9th February 2013.

I have not received a reply yet. I have applied for an e-petition asking for a parliamentary enquiry into the conduct of the LidDem/Cons at the conclusion of the last Gleneral Election. I have addressed this application to the Leader of the House of Commons. If he refuses to permit the petition, I will allege a conflict of interest upon his part. I will keep everybody posted. This House of Commons is an unelected assembly and the formation of this coalition was nothing less than a coup d’état.

Well said Nick MacDonald, we were Conned by the LibDems, I voted for them because I had no faith in GB and New Labour and would never want another Tory government after Mrs T. Had a Local LibDem around with his leaflets today, after reading I noted several misleading statements about his successes locally, screwed it up and put it in the bin. I can't wait for them to come tapping on my door in 2 years time. I just hope we still have a society left by that time!!!

I, too, voted LibDem because I thought that we needed a change from the two old, tired and discredited parties. But I feel that my vote was stolen. I voted LibDem as a vote AGAINST Labour and the Conservatives. The political carve up carried out by Cameron and Clegg was an abuse of the electorate and the parliamentary process.

Lorna, I didn't know either but it is a Discretionary Housing Payment. Only a time limited payment that can sometimes help if there is a difference in rent owed and housing benefit paid. I am not sure it will apply in the instance of the benefit changes which come in once the bedroom tax arrives.
