unfortunately the family is going to have to keep him with them. There is no other way to protect him from those who would abuse him.

Keeping him in our homes isn't an option. I wish it was, but medicaid won't help pay for the care he would need in our homes. They will pay for a facility. We are trying to keep him as close as possible to my sister's home so that she can visit him regularly, but there aren't enough facilities to house the amount of people that need places to live. I also am looking into hiring someone to stop in randomly once or twice a week unannounced to visit him and make sure he is being cared for.

medicaid needs to be talked to my a lawyer so you can get paid to keep him in your homes, there is no other way to insure that he won't be abused by care takers. It has to be a option. Go to DC and go to the white house and talk to Obama, make him fix this. Others get paid to care for their severly needy in home, you have to keep on it.

Not everyone can care for the needs of a disabled person. Some because of their situation, some because they don't know how, but if they need help, they deserve to get it when asked. I, personally, would care for mine, but that is because I was raised in a family with physical and mental disabilities, including an older brother with spinabifida. In my case, it would be normal for me to take care of my own, because we always have. Some can't handle it.

I am not sure where things stand for Colt at the time of this posting, but if you would like some help, I might be able to put you in contact with better people. I have a adult daughter who is deafblind with intellectual disability as well, in Marshall and am very tapped in to the Medicaid system in my work. I may not know the exact person to contact, but I know people who will and give RELIABLE information. My cell number is 903.930.1025.

This is how the gov't works. As long as there is family, they leave things up to the family...no matter whether or not the family is capable of the care. We care for my older brother & have tried desperately to get help. But because my parents never had him officially declared disabled, we're left to do it on our own. He's 54 with about a 10 yr old mentality & diabetic. Without constant care, he has siezures & serious problems because he cannot reason well enough to handle his medication,...

He currently has NO insurance & NO benefits. Praise the Lord my husband makes a decent enough income that I can stay home & care for him as needed but we live paycheck to paycheck & no one seems willing to help us get medical benefits or disability. We're trying to save up to get a lawyer, but that will take time.
My heart goes out to this family as do my prayers. We know full well what they are up against!

Sorry, but you are sadly misinformed. If they left it up to the family, they wouldn't have taken my son (19 years old) on July 27,2012, away for being disabled. He was in no danger, and has a TBI from an accident in 2006, never mind the fact that his medication is for his bipolar disorder, not the TBI. They need be trained to differentiate between those who need them and those who don't, instead of taking them against their, and their families will. I hope they can find someone to help with...

This is very unfortunate. Non-medical people have no idea how to find institutions that qualify. The state should find one for him. This needs to be addressed!

It's cases like this that let us know that we must fight for the 98% US....
If we do not, who will.
Call your elected officials and tell them to support OBAMACARE, Tax Cuts for middle america and a tax increase for the rich. How many damn Mercedes do they need in their driveway while putting Mentally handicapped people in the street for lack of funds. Sickening!
