Spread the word about creating the east-west link for the Streetcar - Let's make some noise at City Council! We need to get one more council member on board!

Yes, imagine if everyone who has signed this petition showed up at the City Council meeting this Mon (the 17th) with a sign that said "We want the streetcar!" Those who oppose it showed up last time the Council voted, and they got their way. Will we show up this time?

East Charlotte needs this!

The goal is to get 1000 signatures by the City Council vote on Dec. 17. Currently there are about 100. Please consider signing or sharing if this is an interest to you!

I signed but PLEASE be aware that City funding to support a north-south cross-town multi-use commuter trail is also threatened in this CIP. It's a much smaller amount of money and would create an eternal healthy backbone for our city. In fact it should be doubled to add an east-west trail.

Nancy, we agree the Carolina Thread Trail segment is also an important part of the CIP and should be funded as well. We are focused on the streetcar because no other organization is organizing public support for it and because it is what is opposed most strongly by the majority of the Council. Our position is that both should be funded. Both provide more choices for citizens to move around the city.

The choice to eliminate support for the streetcar also eliminated any support for the trail, but I did not hear anyone object. If funded, the north-south trail line item would provide essential CDOT-related infrastructure (bridges and so forth) to speed up the County's greenway system and Carolina Thread Trail by giving it alternative transportation legitimacy as a commuting corridor. I think this is major.

How many of the council have interests in oil companies?

The lightrail has been a tremendous success. The City Council voted unanimously for its extension up through the University area. The streetcar infrastructure has been started and will be a unique and sustainable method of transportation for Charlotteans and visitors to our great city. Do NOT hold this proposal hostage in order to pass your budget!

Er, can SC residents vote?

As a frequent visitor to the QC for a variety of activities, I would think the council would also be interested in hearing from neighboring residents who would use this form of transportation periodically.

We've been blasting this out to the Commonwealth-Morningside neighborhood like crazy, but we are a small neighborhood - actually the smallest in Charlotte. Just a thought...we REALLY should get Harris Teeter involved more on this. They are rebuilding their flagship store within eyesight of the proposed route and are committed to helping revitalize the area. City council really listens when a big player like them gets their word in.

The street car is a part of a county-wide transportation and economic development strategy that contributes to the overall sustainability of the community, is an incentive to business and community development along the line and builds connectivity among neighborhoods. We built an arena, contributed infrastructure to a stadium and now are partnering on a baseball park - all good things. A street car is another piece of building community that connects parts of Charlotte.

Absolutely!

I'm not thrilled that the Mayor is sacrificing the Streetcar project. Let's see if we can't get to 1000 signatures in the next few days to show the Council how much it matters to those of us on the East and West sides. And folks from the South who have benefitted from the Lynx, we'd love to hear your voices too! Thanks y'all.

Connecting the East and West areas of Charlotte, would be a business boon for both areas. These areas have been ignored way too long. It will enhance the diversity and culture of our city. VOTE FOR IT!

Awesome! This initiative has gotten a lot of people speaking out against it but there are so many people who are FOR the streetcar who just don't know how to voice their support.

Exactly, I couldn't agree more.
