I signed but PLEASE be aware that City funding to support a north-south cross-town multi-use commuter trail is also threatened in this CIP. It's a much smaller amount of money and would create an eternal healthy backbone for our city. In fact it should be doubled to add an east-west trail.
Nancy, we agree the Carolina Thread Trail segment is also an important part of the CIP and should be funded as well. We are focused on the streetcar because no other organization is organizing public support for it and because it is what is opposed most strongly by the majority of the Council. Our position is that both should be funded. Both provide more choices for citizens to move around the city.
The choice to eliminate support for the streetcar also eliminated any support for the trail, but I did not hear anyone object. If funded, the north-south trail line item would provide essential CDOT-related infrastructure (bridges and so forth) to speed up the County's greenway system and Carolina Thread Trail by giving it alternative transportation legitimacy as a commuting corridor. I think this is major.
How many of the council have interests in oil companies?
while I may not live in Charlotte, North Carolina, I support any project that is designed to overhaul our aging transportation infrastructure & for projects that support the furthering of public transportation.
we need it.

this is wanted and needed by many. Please let it be done.
Woo Hoo, number 500!
Please support this!
The street car is a total waste of money which will result in higher real estate taxes when people are struggling to pay their bills. I praise Claire Fallon, Beth Pickering, Warren Cooksey, Andy Dulin, Patrick Cannon, and Michael Barnes have shown incredible courage in supporting the citizens of ALL of Charlotte. Kudos to responsible representative.
Streetcar will be great for that area.
Creating a corridor, a district, not just nodes of development, is the huge asset of Streetcar investment.
