One thing is for certain. If they were limited to the same coverage that the average Medicare recipient receives, I can guarantee that program would be improved over night. I'm so glad this issue is hitting the spotlight.

I find it odd that we elect someone to Congress and they can literary retire for the rest of their lifes. No matter their age. If they serve just one term they get 80% of their salary and full benefits. With the job they are doing in Washington all they do is sit and agrue and we are the ones that have to struggle making and trying to figure out how to survive the higher Taxes that our elected officials think we can afford. This spending is causing every American to suffer. And I do not...

And I do not understand how people can can go along with this present admimistration but do understand that Democrats will vote Democrat even if they do no really want to due to Party Alliance. Democrats are not breaking the Republicans they are breaking th Democrats with Taxes. 5 years and no improvement. The public as whole will tire of this evenually. Can't blame Bush now. If so it show a denial of the true facts.

Brenda, I totally agree! They are power hungry and greedy. They boost theirs so that they can cut everyone else's pay..including the Military.

I think that any pay increases referendum be brought before the voters to decide, just like a company does. It should be decided by us, not them. And as far as insurance and retirement, do away with it and let them pay for it just like everybody else. I think it's about time the free ride on the gravy train stops.

We have four ex Presidents. Jimmy Carter, George Bush Sr., Bill Clinton, and George HW Bush. We still pay for them each to have offices that are tax payer covered with costs in the millions of dollars except for Jimmy Carter who still uses around $800,000 and $900,000 per year not including the retirement we pay them. What is wrong with this picture. It's about time we have accountability in government. Stop trying to cut Social Security and medicare that we have paid for all our working...

What is wrong with this picture. It's about time we have accountability in government. Stop trying to cut Social Security and medicare that we have paid for all our working lives, and regulate retired politician spending. We could save a bundle there. I don't look at these as entitlements, but I do look at the cost of retired politicians , (retirement benefits, medical insurance, and office rental and staff pay as entitlements. And their damn salaries are too damned high anyway. Like my Daddy always told me. Clean up your own house before criticizing someone elses.

What they have done before coming to Congress is capital investment and not paying into Social Security? Then they, the 1%ers get elected to get the retirement salaries and benefits and I think then they may can opt out of SS.

Unless they can turn it into votes or money, they don't know you when you ask them for help...why let them keep their hands in your pockets taking your children's bread money so they can wallow in luxury.

If they were officers in a corporation that was doing as badly financially as the US is, they wouldn't have a job. PERIOD!

We have to be tired of the do nothing Government. The house has to be clean it is too easy for the PEOPLE to do what is right for themselves. The word Congress makes me want to vomit.
